It's one thing after another with this car (the joy of Fiat?!).

The aerial was noticed to be loose, on inspection it appears that the thread inside the housing unit on top of the car is non-existent. Cue one aerial sat in the boot, and no radio reception.

D'ya reckon that a Halfords jobby would do the trick, and has anyone had any experience of fitting a rooftop aerial - how long's it gonna take me, and is it a faffy job??

Or can I replace the housing on top of the roof..?

should be able to replace the housing on the roof with one from the scrappys just tie a piece of string top the aerial wire at the stereo end so when you pull the old one out you can use the string to pull the replacement cable through, otherwise its a nightmare feeding the cable through

think the ariel bolts on from inside the car. you'll need to remove headlining or sunroof control depending on car. alternatively you could get some one to rethread the base. or use a longer bolt with a nut on the end. if you're fitting new ariel. put silicone under rubber seal as these are known to leak over time.

i've just had a thought. maybe you mean where the ariel screws in and out for removal. if so, all you have to do is buy a new ariel from fiat or scrappers and unscrew the screw that the ariel pivots on. and simply replace old for new.
i had to do this, nearly took off sunroof etc. till i remembered i could do this!

New ariel units from FIAT include the mounting; they cost about a tenner if I recall correctly. 2-minute job to fit.

yeah but if the mounting is still ok, don't bother removing it,
