after my car has warmed up and iam stood still in nutral i can hear a tapping sound, aslo refered to as a galloping horse under my bonnet by a mate, but when i put my clutch down it stops, any ideas wot this could be, as i havent got a clue???

What is it the (MK2 1.2 8v) Do you know what tappets that need adjustment sound like..? Is it this noise or don't u know... If its a (MK1) they cannot be adjusted but the shims can be changed also injectors are noisy and do seem to get worse as they get older and hotter but theres nothing you can really do about it and it doesnt affect performance... Could be piston slap common on the punto maybe even moving or loose camshaft also common on the punto 1.2 but it dosnt damage the engine...

yeah its a mk1 basically i should really be bothered as i gunna sell car soon anway

id say clutch as the noise goes away when its pressed, a mates punto had a similar noise to what you described and it also turned out to be clutch,.,.
