hilarious, you should be on television.

can anybody provide a real solution? or even tell me what is the cause of the problem? (y)

If plan A is not the case, then try checking the tyre for any lumps or bumps in the tread area. Easieist way to do this is jack the vehicle up, and the spin the wheel whilst looking at the tread. Any major lumps or bumps should show up.

Often cheaper tyres develop faults in the tread area leading to noises sounding like something rubbing!

Blimey,Did you part ex your sense of humour for the motor ??:p
Is the rubbing intermitent or constant when carrying passengers? Has the car been lowered?
Has it possibly been involed in a shunt prior to you buying it?
IS IT a rubbing sound or grinding?

firstly, no, your not funny. so give up now.:(

but hopefully your advice proves to be better than your "jokes" :)

its sort of a mix between rubbing/grinding that is intermittent but more constant in the lower gears - usually none existent by 4th and only ever occurs when there is weight in the back?

a chap said to me it was quite common for puntos?

Have you had a new back box fitted recently? as they tend to rub on the rear axle if not fitted properly, if it's worse with pasengers then this could be the problem as the car is sitting down more on the axle.

look underneath the car and see how much gap there is between the rear axle and the exhaust you should be able to fit your hand through easily between the gap (make sure the exhaust isn't hot) :p
