Hi,

I’ve got a worn out steering rack which I’ll need to replace on my 2001 mk2 1.2 16v ELX. I’ve bought a new used rack and new tie/track rods.

How difficult is it to change? Is there anything in particular to look out for? Does the front beam need to come out to replace it?

Thanks in advance!

Thank for the answer! :)

When you say keep the wheel straight ahead, so you mean the wheels or the steering wheel?

My car is crazy out of alignment, so it’s an either or situation for me. Either the steering wheel is centered and the roadwheels are tuning substantially right OR the roadwheels are straight and steering wheel is leaning to the left.

Both.

Make absolutely sure the rack is in centre of travel either way before fitting to column set with steering wheel straight.

After changing the rack you must get the wheel alignment adjusted.
