While being aware the engine originally started out as a 1.2 in the 1999 Fiat Ecobasic concept car, is it known whether the 1.3 / 1248cc Multijet engine used in the mk2 Punto (and other models) was in fact derived from the FIRE (given the similar displacement to the 1242cc petrol) or the Pratola Serra* engines?

*- It seems the smallest Pratola Serra based diesel was the 1.6 Multijet, while the smallest petrol was a 1.4. Which would appear to rule it out as the basis of the 1.3 Multijet, yet there has never been 100% confirmation of the FIRE forming the basis of the 1.3 Mutlijet.

What does the FPT site say about the 1248's history ?

1248cc is 1.2 ;)

Can you provide the FPT link in question?

Given there is a 6cc difference (along with minor bore / stroke differences) between the 1242cc FIRE and 1248cc Multijet, would it accurate to say the latter was derived from the former?

Not sure how accurate the following link is though it claims the Ecobasic's capacity was 1199cc.
