I'm back again with yet more problems...I'm still a learner driver.. I purchased my car around four months ago for £900 I've already replaced the coils, leads and spark plugs...everything was fine for a few weeks and suspension snapped..so I got that fixed too. Everything was fine for another few weeks and as I was driving the other week my steering went really hard and I couldn't turn...later on that day my engine light came on as well as my power steering light... I finally took it to a garage where they said I need a new ECU and a new power steering column and got quoted £700  ... I'm now in a dilemma...do I spend 700 pound on the car to get it fixed.. Is that price roughly about right? Do I get rid before next mot?:(

Here are the codes I received from a diagnostics test.. Any help or advice I will be so greatfull of..thank you! :)

Engine: p0351 ignition coil circuit
Power steering : c1005 steering column motor torque position sensors

I've replaced the whole steering column for £145, on an exchange basics.

Quite a simple DIY job if your good with the spanners.

You don't say which ECU needs changing. The car has a central ECU that controls engine management but the steering has its own ECU.

The remanufactured unit I used came complete, ECU, motor all recalibrated.

C1005 is the fatal code for power steering failure :(

The low battery and motor issue is just as common failures, but when the car is failing to see the torque sensor - it gets painful...

These aren't replaceable units either :(
it becomes a whole coloumn :(

Ziggy

That happened to my mk2b.
