Hi all,

I have an '03 Punto Mk2b Active Sport 1.2 8v. Unfortunately, the person who originally brought the car didn't take very kindly to the optional extras available.

The best I have is electric windows.. All the rest are manual (which I know can be better than electric in most case, especially with Italian electrics). I have manual side mirrors, no sunroof and key central locking.

When I first past my test, I drove a brand new Hyundai i10 (exciting I know!!) for a year and that had electric EVERYTHING. (Mirrors, windows, sunroof). I can understand that my car is a lot older, but I've seen people with older Punto's than mine with all the extras!
Even my old '99 Seicento Abarth had electric windows and a sunroof! (Top of the range uh-huh!)

Out of all the extras there were, the one that really stands out for me is the remote central locking. I'd love to try and fit that to my car.

Does anyone know if this is a simple extra to add. Or is it a case of my car just can't have it? Good thing is that my brother is a dab-hand with electrics, so if anything needs doing, he's the man.

Any help would be gratefully received.

Rhys

Hi mate,

It's dead easy and you can pick up kits for around £15. Have a look in the guides section, there are a couple (3 actually I think) of guides that go through the various options available.

Search for "remote locking kit" on eBay. Recently I've fitted quite a few of THESE kits. They seem quite good and under £10. If you already have keyed central locking then you don't have to bother with fitting actuators in the doors or anything like that which is a bonus!! (y) it's just a case of connecting up around 5 cables for minimal functionality but you can connect up more for more options if you wish.

Hope that helps

if you're after remote central locking then after-market is the route to go, i did this on my old punto and that was a bog standard model:D but i did it up over 2 years adding stuff to it to make it a bit more modern.:)

as alan says its a matter of adding onto the original system!

Hi just wondered because I'm going to fit my remote locking kit soon. Do you splice the connections? And do you have to connect it to a power source or does it use the lock wire for example as power?

Hi mate,

I splice and solder for the most reliable connection.

Most units will require a permanent 12v supply and an earth. Normally you also have another cable which you either connect to earth for negative trigger systems (like your punto) or positive for positive trigger systems.

All the connections are done by the fuse box in the passenger compartment so picking up a permanent 12v supply is easy and you can use the dash mounting bolt on the right as an earth.

failing that take the plastic trim off below the door im sure people know what i mean, the big fat wiring loom for the car theres a constant 12v feed there, cant remember which wire it was as i dont have my punto anymore but its one of the wires, never had an issue with car splicing into that loom,no drain on the battery either:D

my punto was the base model didnt even have central locking  so rcl fitted on it was so great and better in the mornings going to work, unlcoking the car from front door

Thank you for the quick replies.

I have keyed central locking at the moment, but its just such a laborious job putting the key in everytime I go to the car..

I'll definitely check out the kits and guides available.

Thanks again for your help,
Rhys
