Technical HG time?

Technical HG time?

hour and half job incl stopping for for the odd ciggie & coffee.

You've either got:

1. A time machine
2. Experience

or both:)

Just took an hour cracking off the last inlet manifold nut, the really awkward one low down to the right. So close to rounding off, I was nearly weeping with joy when it finally cracked. Good old Bahco 1/4 set, it's a peach.

Haynes is sh*t for this type of job, a few extra words wouldn't hurt sometimes, such as "release the connector clip at back of ECU housing".

Anyway, what's the best way to release the brake vacuum servo hose, at inlet or at servo?

(amusingly found an old rusty spark plug lurking down the back, next to the 13mm socket I dropped)

(Haynes is sh*t for this type of job,)

Yes it is,
idont bother with hayne's..

inlet manifold?
why didnt you just leave it on, obviously removing ecu first and putting it away
somewhere safe.

servo. its just on a push/fit isnt it?

these punto's is simples to work on..try doing one on a siecento.. manifold bolts are a MOFO to get at..withought removing all the skin off hands..

Bahco spanner eh..very posh :D they is same as Snap-on. :)

Because Haynes told me to, and I always obey.:)

Don't know, anyone else?

How are they the same?

The price was pretty good for a nice little set, and I generally love Bahco tools, from their saws (best hardpoint saw on the market), files, to cutters.

So, posts 3 and 4 then.

Right diagnostic order:

1. Check for blue sparks off spark plug leads (I checked, none).
2. Replace plugs and leads
3. Check compression

That was a learning experience for me. In the absence of a pressure tester and desperate to get on in the little available time before holiday, I decided to start stripping down the engine, inlet manifold first.

When I had it stripped down, I noticed that cylinder 1 and 2 had a bit of oil around the plugs, in the recess. I hadn't spotted this when I first removed the plug in the dark with a head torch...
The plug was contaminated with oil on the way out, and that's what got me thinking in the first place that it was the HG.
Source of oil looks like weeping rocker cover gasket, hadn't spotted it.
Took the opportunity to clean things up a bit, like throttle body, and replaced plugs and leads. Running sweetly now.

All in all, a fun if slightly misplaced way to learn a bit more about the car. Got to take the silver lining!
