Hello there!

I'm experiencing a strange problem with my punto (210.000km) in the last two weeks.
When I release the accelerator,I hear a noise like when there is a little hole in the exaust system pipes. I checked all the pipes anf they seems ok.
The only problem I noticed is a broken hose clamp (corroded) on a flexible stainless steel hose near the exaust manifold: can be it? And, by the way, what is that?
(image attached).

I'm also experiencing a strange problem with the brakes in the last 5 month. When I push the pedal, the car stops, but it sink too much.
If I release the pedal and push it again, it's all right.
Can be related to the other problem ?

That hose clamp does look like it could be allowing exhaust gasses to escape.
You brake problem sounds like there is air in the brake line so a good idea would be to replace the brake fluid for starters.

Wise move to have a look where the air has come from as you might have a weeping seal in one of the brake components.

Hi and WELCOME TO THE FORUM

The corrugated pipe goes to the EGR (exhaust gas re circulation) valve, and will be letting out exhaust fumes. The sound it makes will depend on if the EGR is open or closed. This will be why you mainly notice the noise when you are coming off the throttle.

As above regarding the brakes. Have you checked your brake fluid level? If it's dropping then in would suggest a leak. If it's not dropping then it would suggest a worn internal seal which may be allowing fluid by under pressure, or potentially air in the system.

thanks for the replies.

I have no leaks in the brake system (brake fluid level is ok, no signs on the floor or near the components); I'll double check for the presence of air in the circuit.

In case of worn seals, where is better start? If it was a front caliper, I have to see a leak...; in the rear, I have to expose the drum brake to be sure there isn't a leak.
And for the pump? Is it possible some kind of "recirculation" of the fluid inside the system, because I have no leak here.
For calipers and pump, did you now if it is possible to retrieve and change the seals only?

The noise that I was hearing when I released the accelerator is not provoked by the pipe in my first photo.
I have discovered that the hose clamp I mention before, only fix a fiberglass cover; under that, there is a stainless tube that arrives in one piece to the EGR valve.
I'm removing the EGR for cleaning.
(attached image, if anyone is interested).
Now, I want to check the first section of the exaust system...
Any idea how to expose the exaust manyfold ? I to remove the pipes of the cooling system (uff..) ?

Can be the little flexible section before the catalytic converter?
It seems ok ... I don't see any black ring....
