Hi all,
Help.
Does anyone know the location of the sensors on 54 plate Punto 1.2 Active sport, 3 door. The red warning light - a door symbol - is continually on when the ignition is on - unless I remove the plug from the door lock mechanism
I can't find any sensors on the doors that would trigger the warning lamp.
Also the doors won't lock, as it thinks one of the doors is open.
I have been all over the doors, I even have the drivers door interior panel removed, but can't trace the sensor. I'm thinking there may only be a boot sensor, but need some informed input.
Cheers

Hi,

The door open switch is a small microswitch located in the latch module on each door. There is one in each door AND the boot lid.

Unfortunately there is no simple plunger type switch as there used to be on older cars as Fingers describes, the switch is built into the door lock mechanism itself.

Also check the door loom for chafed/ broken wires, as this is often the cause.

Have yo ascertained which door it is thats causing the problem yet?

Hi,
Suspect it is the driver door as it had dropped slightly due to a tear in the metal around the top hinge. This has now been repaired
I have looked at the pins in the connector by the check strap and they are all OK. However, not check the wiring through the rubber sheath to the socket. no damage visible to the protective sheath.
Had the lock mechanism out and mechanically it is all fine. Is there any way to check the pins on the lock mechanism for continuity, with the plug removed ?
The Red door warning light does not function with the plug removed and the lock also works fine with the plug out, obviously just no central lock feature.
Cheers

Right jumped onto Autodata for you

The 2004 1.2 8v
Lists the doors having 6 wires

Pin 1 and 2 are the motor that moves everything
Pin 5 is the earth wire
Assuming pin 6 is the Door open and door closed
Pin 3 and 4 are the doors locked - door unlocked signals

Pins 3 4 and 6 are all earthed via pin 5

Thanks for the wiring diagram Ziggy, that make it much more clear. I will check out the switch with my digital meter. I will get back with the result.
thanks to everyone for help.

99/100 its the micro switch in the boot
with ignition on and boot open lock the mechanism and with a small screwdriver close the mechanism some more, now look to the dash see if light out this usually confirms this switch faulty
cheapest remedy remove black cover on tailgate disconnect wire to boot lock
remember to shut boot before a journey

final conclusion:

was unpluging door wires per recommendation by odhammer to see if the red door light would go out ,but it didnt, then i went back to the boot and unpluged wires and light went out, so s and b was right by saying its the switch in the boot door lock, i have just cut the black cable from it and problem solved

Alan, apologies for hooking up,
interior lighting of my fiat punto mk2b no longer reacts to the doors. Not on any door. I can turn on the lamp by pressing it. Do you have any idea what the problem may be? I can not imagine that all micro-switches are broken! When opening each door there will be a report on the dashboard, so that works. Interior lighting unfortunately not. Thanks in advance for your response.
