Hello all!

Any ideas on how much I should expect to pay to replace the exhaust starting from behind the cat? (i.e. the straight pipe and backbox)

I'm based in manchester, and its a 53 plate 1.2 8v mkIIb

I know this doesn't properly answer your question but I spent just less than £150 on manifold & cat, flexi pipe & straight pipe, gaskets, rubber seals, I basically got a whole new exhaust system except for backbox! But I did fit it myself, which tbh wasn't too hard with a few car ramps and a helping hand from a Mate!

A performance exhaust is most likely to release more noise, rather than power.
The vehicle manufacturer has spent countless hours finding the best compromise between engine characteristics, noise levels and space availability under the car. An aftermarket supplier can just copy the shape for an OE replacement, or use less padding for more noise, or a bigger diameter pipe. These options cost little. A proper performance exhaust will need time on a rolling road and with a noise meter. Price you pay will reflect this.

A noisy exhaust will annoy your neighbours and attract the police like wasps to a jam jar.

Just call me old and cynical.

(Not meaning any offence, but here's a quote from my Mum. "The size of the exhaust represents the space between the driver's ears and the distance you should keep away."
But don't let any of this put you off.

Thanks for all the replys!

That exhaust kit does seem v. cheap! Unfortunately I don't currently have the time/resources to change the exhaust myself - I find it really hard to get enough clearance beneath the car to work on it as it is!

How much do you think a garage would charge in labour if I were to supply the exhaust? Or would this just **** a garage off?

Just quoted £155 + VAT by kwikfit!!! Criminal.

Nope - dont pay it!

Way way way too much

As said The exhaust setup is £50, so they are basically charging £100 to fit an exhaust.....
I'd hope they'd coat it with platinum or gold for that money

If you were near me at all, i'd of done the Part and fitting for about £80 - 100
But im not a garage and your not near me :(

For info for others in the same situation:

Got the exhaust linked above for £44 and a local garage fitted it for £36, a nice £100 saving on kwik fit quote!
