Firstly let me apologise about creating new topics but this is really worrying me!
Below is a topic I started today.....

A week ago I bought a 2004 Sporitng. I drove the car home for 30 miles with no trouble at all. Later that day I nipped out and did a pretty sharp turn at low speed and the computer showed POWER STEERING FAILURE with the little red steering wheel lit up. I turned the ignition off and on and everything has been fine. When I were out driving yesterday the same thing happened, I went round a sharp bend at a very low speed and on came the warning. This time I didn't restart the car, I carried on driving and the steering never felt any different at all, it felt absolutely fine

the warning only comes on when I turn the steering to either full lock, or close to full lock. I'm not really sure what to do as it doesn't affect the feel of the steering or drive at all....

I went to start the car up and when I turned the key and I were greeted with ESP FAILURE which came on the screen, and the car wouldn't start, nothing happened. Tried and again and the same, absolutely nothing at all happens.... I have no idea what to do????

Any help guys is always appreciated

THANK YOU for your reply. I quickly tried the jump leads, battery - battery but this made no difference.
I'm not really good with cars so I have no idea how to do No.1. When I tried to start to the car the lights worked, radio worked, everything worked other than the car starting, could it still be the battery?

What is the condition of the battery? I'm suprised the 1.4 sporting has ESP (its called ASR on the punto anyway) do you mean EPS (electric power steering) anyway this makes me think its a glitch being caused by having an virtually dead battery no power for steering and no power for the starter motor.

Have you checked the battery water level ? You could try a push start but some people on here frown about such things in any case start with the battery

I've just been out to check and it definitely said ESP Failure. I turned the ignition off and it didn't come up this time, it still wouldn't start but this time it say STEERING FAILURE

I still go with the knackered battery theory.

To check the potential of a corroded engine earth take a black jump lead and connect it between the battery earth and a large metal part of the engine block/gearbox

I called GreenFlag out this morning and after no more than 15 minutes he told me that it were the Starter Motor, he said it were knackered. I asked could it not be the battery, he put his charger pack on for no more than 2 minutes and said, nope, it's definitely the Starter Motor. We bump started the car and I then took it to my trusted garage. I explained all to them and they said it sounded like the battery. We used one of the guys cars and got the jump leads out, guess what happened.... The car started first time with the aid of the jump leads! I've now got a new Bosch battery in and it's running perfectly. They also check all the cables and the alternator and all is fine.

Thank you to all who helped!
