Hi i have complete failure of my Wipers so i instanlty thought wiper motor (this was gonna get changed due to broken linkage) So i changed the wiper motor and still had no wipers (the fuses were all fine) All the other controls on the stalk work. So being at a bit of the loss i took the car to a garage and the said it was a fault with the control module behing my fuse box ( they couldnt source a second hand part) so as a solution the have by passed it all seemingly and wired the wipers straight to a switch they have installed on my dash!!!!

I just want to see if anyone else has got any ideas i hate the switch on my dash already and want to get it working proper! Its just been a total BODGE!!!

you couldnt fix the car
so you took it to a garage
they diagnosed faulty body compuer in relation to wipers and to keep your car on the roadat reasonable cost they hard wired your wipers with a switch
they deserve a medal not a slag:D

for your information a new body computer will be + £500 from the dealer then it would need coding into your can and fitting so a reasonable extra is £150

your other alternative would be to source a second hand bsi from say a breaker together with a lock set and of course the engine ecu
lets suppose you drop lucky get the right set up for your car and it works
reasonably £100 for this little lot from ebay (my local breaker wants £150) then you need to add about 2/3 hours labour to fit it all

mm

seems sometimes we in the trade cant do right :shakehead:

Thats not quite what i meant! I knew there waas no control panel behind the fuse box but if they had explained it into the depth that you have then maybe i would understand it better! Thanks!!!!

Oh and it would have also have been nice to have just to get a phone call advising of the problem and cost involved before ANY work was done! So that i could have made the choice to what should happen to the car!!!

Tricky one - the time explaining everything sometimes gets you nowhere except an hour in the hole. Some easily frightened types run a mile at the idea of a sensible fix. There are bodges and bodges. Sounds like they did you a big favour. As they oldies say , you don't buy a dog and bark yourself.

Find yourself a garage whose stated policy is to contact you before any work is done.
I use a garage like that, it's peace of mind.

You can argue the toss over this, but my opinion (and I vote with my wallet) is that innovation is great, a good garage comes up with the right solution, but implementation should only be on the say-so of the customer, unless previously agreed.

I think people are pickier these days, and communication goes a long way

I'd love my cars systems to be how they used to be on old cars! Direct from the battery, through a fuse then a switch. How car maintenance would be so much easier.

I :)

But if it was as simple as that - we'd have wires all over the car for every single appliance, hence why fuse box's became a good thing - 1 big power in - lots of fused single strands out :)

I admit when i added my own horn in - it was **** easy to diagnose when something wasn't quiet right
