Hi all.

For some reason, my 2000 Punto passenger door won't lock. The central locking has always played up but now I can't lock the passenger door with the key or from the inside. The pin moves slightly but it won't lock. Any ideas appreciated.

Thanks

You might need to take the door card off, and have a look around the pin.

Theres a plastic piece that sits around the pin (think its to stop the pin rattling) but if it pops out of its seating it will make the pin hard to push down.

Ditto, you have to get the card off to see what's going on.
There's a good guide on the site for that.

If you can't lock it from the inside, and the key is not working either, then it's most likely that the door lock mechanism is

1. Seized
2. Broken

(i.e. it's fairly unlikely that the lock barrel AND the lock button are not working simultaneously).

You could try a blast of WD40 (I would), you never know your luck...
Of course, that's not a permanent solution, but it might help you diagnose the fault.

Thanks lads. Prior to the post, I had removed the door card but you can't see a great deal. I removed the plastic cover that was riveted in too. I checked the plug on the solenoid and that seems OK but it still refuses to budge. I have also put some WD40 on the mech but it's still stuck. I think I'll try remove the locking mech and check it over.

hi all
i have recently purchased a 3 door 98 punto sx 60 and actually iv discovered a few minorish problems
1) passenger side door is very dodgy.i cant unlock/lock it from the ouside of the car with the key..however i can manually unlock/lock the car from the inside...sometimes it plays up...but when u have got it locked it decides to electronically pop back up and i have to do this several times b4 its locked.

Any suggestions welcome

2) Back seatbelt doesnt work u can clip it in and after a few seconds it unclasps .leaving me feeling a bit unsure as i have small children so i can actually ony carry 2 passengers in the back seeming as 1seatbelt is unsafe...any ideas on how to fix this problem?

3) Occasionally and its not everytime i start the car but maybe every 3 or 4 starts of the car the keycode light comes on on the dash, whats this for, as there is no radio to speak of at all in the car only a hole in the dash and some exposed copper wires..

i v only had this car 2 weeks and iv got to get tracking done, just had to do oil filter as it split alternator belt on its way out and any ideas on when the timing belt needs replacing im currently showing 89k on the clock, the car has not come with any manuals and also do Fiats come with ''common'' problems ...ty all

Hello good sir - it is probably too late for a reply as it was a year ago but I am going to post my findings anyway. I had a similar problem to you in that my passenger side door would not lock properly. In fact getting the thing to lock at all was impossible sometimes. The key did not want to turn and when it did the locks would close then pop back up again within a second.

The issue that I had was my front driver side door had dropped and the alignment was out. Once I took the door off and realigned the thing then, miraculously, the passenger side door is now locking and staying locked. There is no more jamming when trying to lock it and the job is really a good one.

To get the door off simply undo the strap catch on the door, remove the two screws on the hinges and lift the door off. This is now the tricky part. You won't have enough room to fit a wrench and socket onto the hinge bolts to readjust the hinges. I used a hex bit and a spanner to loosen my brackets. Readjust the brackets a little and also the catch built into the car (close to the seat belt). CLOSE THAT DOOR REAL SLOW!!

Adjust as necessary and then make sure all other doors are closed and the locks are set to open (along with the driver's side door). Plug in the door switch that you unplugged earlier and hopefully all of your doors will lock.
