Right I have a problem with my rear drivers side calliper, Its only grabbing the top (outside) of the disc and you can see where the disc is wearing unevenly... quickly :/

any ideas whats going on? also worst case senario any idea how much a new calliper is? :S

Thanks in advance

I have once taken this calliper apart to give it a good clean, rewound the main pusher, and regreesed the 2 pistons, I don't see any rust around or in the calliper.. just doesn't want to compress on the lower piston :/ looks like Ill have to take it all apart again and see what i can do.. Thanks for reply :)

To be honest, you'll have to at least take a closer look. You never know it may be something simple. Best of luck. When I say rust, I was referring to rusted nuts/bolts.:D

I'm going to take it apart again after work, so Ill take a good look again, I'm hoping its just full of gunk or something haha.
thanks :)

the main point is that as far as i'm aware its not the main piston thats not working properly, its the two smaller ones that have the rubber seal/cover on them, so hopefully I don't need a new Calliper...

Rear calipers work same as any other
Weather its a fixed or floating

If its a fixed caliper, the piston is probably seized, it MIGHT be free'd off and be usuable still
maybe not

A Floating caliper will probably need its slider pins Polishing up and greasing
making sure the boot is present and okay :)
Also Clean the caliper up too :)

If the piston seals have got weathered its going to need a strip clean and new seals. There are no short cuts. As its a rear calliper (presume you have an HGT) its probably easiest and not much more costly to get your calliper reconditioned.

New discs are the same as the basic 1.2 fronts at about £10 each. New pads are HOW MUCH!! so best clean them if you can.

thanks for replys :)

time for an update on this,

I've had the callipers complete apart, cleaned them right up, pollished the sliders up on a wire spindle thing lol. and re-greesed etc etc.. the Main pistion is working fine, sliders are fine...the bottom slider with the 'rubber band' on the end does seem really really stiff to move back and forth... ( but passenger is the same but it works fine) ... the handbrake is defo working allot better after the clean up and braking is really more 'solid'

. but the inner side of the calliper seems not to be getting touched still :/ .... whilst having the disc out I checked both sides and its getting touched by the pads on inside no problem..just not on the outside middle. (if that makes any sense)

Any more Ideas? :S my friend in the garage said it should start wearing down now and work once its been worn in again... (wednesday 23rd) .... still nothing :S

picture isnt best sorry, just taken then with mobile...

click to make it bigger, see how the top is getting warn but the middle lower isnt :S

The pads appear to be not touching the inner part of the disc, but where they are touching, appear to be clean and even. However with the angle shown its hard to be sure. It might be normal.

Make sure you have the correct pads fitted correctly. It would be rude to suggest you have the wrong callipers, but check that anyway.

Gona sound mad and a major school boy error but could it be a chance of fitting the pads the wrong way around?

is that even possible?

EDIT:
I've had the slider pins out all cleaned and regreased but I'm still having this problem D:

If the slider pins are worn they can cause the the calliper and pads to tilt. I'm thinking bite the bullet & get a the calliper professionally remanufactured.
