03 Active Sport, 1.2 8v with 17k miles. Took it for 2nd year service and was told I needed new front pads and discs because of severe judder, which there was.

I've had it from new and I'm pretty sure I'm not that brutal with my braking, it doesn't seem right that the discs need replacing already. Is there a listed life expectancy that I can go back and quote at the dealer?

Reading other similar posts here I gather this is out of warranty (and that Puntos have crap brakes) but I'm hoping to argue on manufacturing defect, the clutch was also replaced under warranty (because of judder) which makes me suspect some Friday afternoon Fiat work was afoot.

Any suggestions?
Cheers

mine changed on 70.000 km for the first time only the pads, discs nothing wrong with them :/

Mine seem a bit juddery at 13000 miles, not a great deal but I can notice it.
I think that the brakes are just cheap, I'm not brutal with mine either but they have worn.

least I have another couple of years warranty :)

mines done 54 miles till got original discs on but 2nd or 3rd set of pads. the juddering relating to brekas is due to discs warping. ie not completly flat so when you break you get judder.vobration felt in steering wheel i assume this is what the problem was ?????

break discs warping can happen when ever and proving a manyfacture fault will be very very hard. thins like going down long hills using your breaks to keep the speed down can cause over heating.

did my pads on friday 15k miles, they were very low i think if i had left longer might have been metal on metal, then i would have needed new disks.
ask the dealer to show you that disks are warped with a dial gauge, if he says we dont do that ask him how he knows they need changing then.

:bang: Took my 03 1.2 active in for second service that also required new discs and pads, tried to charge me £240+ for the privelige
Car has only done 24,000 miles so decided to do the job myself only cost me £44 inc vat for new discs and pads
