hey guys, ive just braught my punto mk2b today (after rolling my cinq! :() and theres a few lights on the dash that im abit condused with as i dont have a booklet to tell me.
one is a yellow light under the rev counter and looks like a baby seat with a seatbelt around it, the other is a lightbulb was a '!' in the middle of it when i turned my lights on, ive looked all around and i cant see any bulbs out so i dont think its a problem but it would be nice for some clarification (y)

also abouve the clock, theres another number with a : between them, what is this??

Yellow seat thing - Means the Passenger Side Airbag is disabled for a baby seat

open the passenger door - pop the key in the airbag switch (located on the side of the dash literally) and that should cure that fault :)

The Next one - the Lightbulb with the ! in it

It means there is a Fault in the Lighting system
Means - A Bulb is sucking too much current
A circuit isn't able to earth properly - causing other lights to work when they shouldn't
An Incorrect Bulb has been fitted IE a 5w Bulb has been fitted not a 10W
A Bulb has popped

You need to see what Makes the light come on - If it comes on when the Side lights are put on - it means its a Side light Bulb Somewhere/earthing
If it happens only when you indicate - its a indicator problem / earting
Brake lights on - then a Fault in the Brake lights

It doesn't cover - Dipped Headlights - Hi Beams - Fogs - Or Reverse Light

So best way is to start by seeing when it comes on
And start there by cleaning earths / checking connections / Bulbs

These cars dont like LED Lights till a Resistor is fitted

the "baby seatbelt" light is the passenger airbag mate...it means that the airbag is de-activated you can activate it from the passenger side of the dash...open the passenger door and look at the dash there will be a key hole put your key in and turn it on(y)

the "lightbulb with !" is bulb failure light to tell you that you have a bulb out...this only works with your sidelights and brake lights...brake lights only when you press the brakes...check all sidelight bulbs from and rear are on including number plate bulbs...if they are then remove the rear light cluster and take the sidelight bulb out check that they are both 10W bulbs and not 5W as somepeople put the wrong WATT bulb in causing this problem

i have no idea about the number in the clock lol soz bud(y)

wicked thanks guys, il do the passenger air bag in the morn and check all bulbs on my lunchbreak tomorrow, the light only comes on when i turn my sidelights on so il have to check them all (including the numberplate bulbs(y))

much appreciated!

Numberplate isn't on the Circuit as side lights - just activates with it
As thats got a seperate fuse to the Sidelight themselves

I've had a Bulb that was Slow to activate - Switched Sidelights on - Warning light would come on - when i went to check they all worked - and light had gone off

So it could be a slow "waking bulb" which means its needs replacing there cheap anyway

But Other then that - it's always been the Rear light clusters with Crappy Earth Pins that have been attacked by water / Rubbish

If you do have the Rear Clustes off - Clean the Bodywork behind it - And possibly apply some wax - keep it clean

the most common problem that i have come across at work when dealing with these lights is that the rear sidelights have the wrong wattage bulbs in...they are suppose to be 10watt not 5watt which most put it mate...if all bulbs are working its worth having a look

or as ziggy said a slow working bulb (dim light output)

the wattage makes sence as the drivers rear light seems less brighter than the passengers, il get that looked at tommorrow, cheers :)

Most of the time tho its an Earthing fault - as in the Main Negative Pins on my light clusters (both Sides) were corroded and making the other bulbs work that shouldn't :slayer:

So indicator - Brake lights flashed alternatively :p

Never had a dim bulb - but if you've got a dim Bulb i'd check the voltage across the Contacts if possible
As it may mean there is another problem

The number above the clock with : in the middle is trip time. That's one of the various displays you can select from the trip computer. Download the user manual from this forum to understand it fully.
