Punto 1.9 jtd, are the power steering and braking systems ran off the same resevior????

I would have thought there is no reservoir for the steering. Even if there was it would not be shared with the brake fluid.

Presume this is Mk2 or beyond.

How would the power steering work without a rezzy? Surely there must be somewere to check/ top up.
Its just sometimes the power steering goes off when driving so i would like to check the level and pump.
And also my abs light comes on but im thinking it could be due new brakes?!

the power steering is all electric and runs off a motor and doesnt have a reserviour

if your steering keeps going off check your battery its most probably that

low battery normally=steering fail

if battery is fine pump/column will need replacing

Ahhhhh, electric. I just presumed it would have been hydraulic. I havent had the car for more than a week so still tryin to find my way around it! Thanks mate ill take a look tmora.

If this is a digital car then the ABS and power steering problems may be linked if it relates to the speed sensor.

Don't think its fully digital at that age, do you have speed sensor in the gearbox?

I wouldnt know, daft question coming, is it in the gearbox? Outside? I wouldnt know how to identify it.
Also found out today that the diesel tank is leaking! Brilliant. Dont spose you would have any suggestions on that? Im sure iv heard of some sort of patch that goes over the crack or split or hole. I havent been able to actually see on the tank were the leak is on the tank.

Yes, it's fully digital. Speedo sensor is right at the back of the gearbox but yours has abs so not sure they do. The speedo runs from the ABS sensors.
The steering problem is your battery if it cuts out mainly on full lock

Replace the battery and all's good. How do your brakes look? If they need replacing then replace. If the abs light still comes on then you start looking for faults on that system

Much appreciated advice there. I was going to put it in for a service n see what they say. But may attempt myself when iv got time, too overtime at work at the min!

My understanding is that early Mk2s are only partially digital.

These cars have a sender on the back of the box, near the output from the diff.

Later fully digital cars use the ABS sensor for the speedo too.

The power steering needs a speedo signal to adjust the assistance.

HGTs share wheel hubs with JTD so if its got ABS it may share the HGT speedo system that runs off the ABS signals.

Fuel tank leak may be the overflow or a split in a flexible connection including the filler pipe
