Hello all,

Just got a putno 55s as my first car. All is ok, but the nearside door lock has been had a go at, is this a expensive job to fix, or could it be done cheapish??
Also, how do i get the back lights off as i need to replace a rear offside brake bulb??

As you may be able to tell, i don't know that much about cars, (Some of the posts in here are way over my head!!) but i can work things out with a bit of help.

Any help'd be great ,

Carl.

(y) welcome to forum

if you open boot and look just under the parcel shelf on the back corner pilar you will see a hole with a bolt head in it. also look above the parcel shelf there will be a plastic cap prise that off that reveals another bolt head. these you undo wich then releases the rear light cluster. ease that off the car to reveal the wiring harness. that you pull out. then you can unscrew the back of teh light to get to the bulbs.

if you look at your spare wheel there should be a black plastic tray on top in this there should be small plastic tool this fits onto teh bolt heads wich you can then turn using the screwdriver as leverage if needed. of if you have a socket set us the correct size from that for ease.

sorry cant help you with the lock

cheers for that, got that sorted in the end. Just as i fixed the brake light, i lost a tail light aswell, but that is sorted aswell. Took ages to suss it but after that, only takes me 5/10 minutes now (better than the hour to suss it!!!).

Cheers for the help, will have to go to the garage to sort the lock out i think.....???

You could probably go to your local scrap yard and pick up a lock / key for a few quid, changing it on the other hand, well that depends on you. if your going to do it, I'd suggest doing all the locks if you dont want too many keys on your keychain (me personally, the more keys the better..)

Good Luck.

Or upgrade the system to CL but that its maybe a little too complex to do your self, and most garages will laugh at you asking them.
Some git tried it on when I had a rover 100 (newer metro) and some goof shoved a cheapo screwdriver in the lock and managed to snap the thing off in it! Took ages to get the door panel pushed back out, and reporting it to insurance company would result in it being written off (cos insurance co's are tossers aswell).
Found a new set of locks for £10 with all the spare keys from a rover 400 (better locks!) and fitted myself, idea is the same, inside the door there will be a lock ring or circlip of sort which secures the lock to the door. Hardest bit is getting into the inside of the door, I'm sure someone will guide you thru it, but I haven;t been in mine yet so can't comment.

Not a bad idea, something I did to my old car (Ford Escort) bought a £15.99 DIY kit from Maplins and installed it, took a little modifaction, but works a treat :) hooks up to the alarm so doors unlock and lock with the alarm arming and disarming.

cheers for that, but CL will have to wait, and i'm not too bothered about that, i can still get in and out!! car is in the garage now, needs a new wishbone and a new tyre! went to pull away yesterday and my dirveshaft/whishbone packed in and of all places, i broke down in the middle of a junction in Liverpool city centre at lunch time!!!!!
Anyway, yesterday morning found out i need the rear wiper fixing, it does not work at all, and the screen wash don't work, bu i can fix that, just not checked it out yet.
Never mind, will all be up and running soon Mechanic says it could be today if he can get the part!!!!
Will probably get the CL later, but need to get back on the road first!

Thanks again, and i'll keep you all posted when i have it running!

Yeah!! my car's fixed!!!!! Mechanic was dead good, car even drives better now!! Only down side is that my whell that got the puncture has a hole in it, so i now have 3 alloys and a spare on!
Screenwash was empty! (dumb arse!) so all i need is the rear wiper and door lock now!!

if the hole aint in the side wall and the thread is decent, take it and get the puncture repaired, costs around a tenner, and lasts (well, my goodyear one has)

no can do, it's the actual wheel that has a hole, went to the tyre place and they wont touch it!

Will be off to the Scrappy to get a new wheel later!
