Hi
I had an accident the other day and rear ended another car at a roundabout, the other car got off with only hairline cracks in its number plate. However the whole crumple zone on my car went.
Have taken it to a local garage and the bonnet, front lights, and bumper all need replacing, as well as some structural bar that was dented in behind the bumper, the left side needs shifting back into the correct position and the other side needs raplacing.

Taking it to the fiat dealership tommorow to see what they can do.
Does anyone have any idea roughly how much this is gonna cost? Could it possibly be a right off? the car's only worth about £3000.

what year is the punto...

if you buy your parts from here you should be able to save a bit

front upper re-inforcement bar c.£10
front bottom re-inforcement bar c.£10
slam pannel c.£20
wings c.£35ea
front crossmember c.£20
bonnet c.£80
lights c.£150 full set
bumper c.£60-80 depending on if it is black or primed for colour-coded

parts alone are going to cost about £440 allow another few quid for fixings. a few hundered (say 300 worst case) for labour, and another few hundered (say another 350) for paint.

so a rough estimate would be bout £1100.

based on a 94-99 punto.

However if the car needs to be put on a jig to be straightened, you're probably better off scrapping it and starting again.

There is a cheeper place to get parts.. another website has the exact same catalog, and is about 10% cheeper, but I cant seem to find that.

Insurance companies work on a rule that if the repairs cost more than 60% of the value of the car then it is not worth doing and is deemed a Total Loss. (Write Off).

I used to work in Insurance and deal with these sort of claims everyday and I would say that it is a write off. Also if it was my car and I wasn't claiming through Insurance I would stick with the same rule as Insurance Companies dont do something if it is not worth it!

Hope thats of some help.

it didnt go to fiat in the end, the insurance company are taking it away to have their own people look at it...
the punto is an x reg(2000) mk2...
