Afew days ago my '99 mk1 punto started judding alot, more so at low revs and it was pretty constant. I also noticed the heater would no longer blow out hot air either. I done some reading online, tried bleeding the radiator a couple of times but it doesnt seem to have helped, maybe i did it wrong? The overheating light comes on on the dash, which it has never done in the year ive owned it, and also i havnt noticed the fan kicking in, so could it be a thermostat problem? but this wouldnt explain the juddering, right? anyway any help would be much appreciated! thanks

yea i had water spurting out quite alot from the rad screw, not so much from the other screw but it was still coming out smoothly. I havnt had to put much coolant in, ive noticed the fan doesnt come on either, i would of thought it came on as soon as the engine got hot enough for the warning light to come on?

Have you taken the lid of the reservoir off and checked the level?

If its actually OK, the top hose should bget hot in a hurry, not just get warm.

Does it?

Yeah it seems ok to me, alll the levels seem ok too. When i drive the car long enough for the overheating light to come on (which is about 10 minutes..) and i park and turn the engine off, i can hear the water in the radiator. It sounds like a kettle boiling.

Im taking it to a garage now to see if they can tell the trouble. Im hoping its just a thermostat problem or somthing easy. None of the HG rubbsh, mine was done about 15k miles ago!

Are the radiator hoses going solid when getting hot (due to combustion entering the cooling system)? If so, sounds like head gasket trouble, was the head checked for true?.

Raymie.

Oops, just saw the date on this post!!

I'd Try the ThermoStat first
10mins for it to over heat could mean its stuck shut

It'd be the cheaper AND easier option to try first IMHO
Before looking at getting the Headgasket done

But a Boiling radiator does sounds like its HG possibly

Daft Question as well - how long ago was it since it has had a Anti-freeze change?

It sounds like a stuck thermostat or broken water pump or even a huge air bubble in the system. If its been boiling, the HG will be ready to pop (if its not gone already).
