So Here's The Thing, My Mate's Just Passed His Test And He's Looking At An '04 1.9 HGT Diesel. Its Something Like £4500 And I Cant Justify Why He's Spending So Much. He Only Wants The Diesel Because He Likes The Sound And Wont Go For The 1.3 Because He Cant Find Any In Yellow. IMHO He'd Be Fine With An Active Sport 1.2 Tbh. But He Wont Listen, So I Thought I'd Rant On This :)

I hate to think what the insurance will be on that but if he is paying that much for the car he must be aware of the insurance and willing to pay it.
Your friend seems very determined from your post. I'm in my last year at sixth form (year 13), lots of people are passing their tests regularly and looking for cars, I know many friends who are very narrow minded when they come to cars, always looking for the power side of things rather than the car itself. But the power goes to their head, only a few weeks a good friend of mine was driving irratically with his friend and he had to brake suddenly having the guy go into the back of him. It's things like that make insurance go up more! ha How old is your friend may I ask?
Try and convince him to buy a 1.2 sporting! Very nice cars

I'd Be Happy With An Active Sport Tbh

Its Just Him
Liking It For The Diesel Sound
I Dont Understand Really When He Can Have A Decent Yellow Active Sport For About £2700 And It Looks Almost Exactly The Same:confused:

Actually, The Insurance Is Only Just Under £1900 With Quinn Direct? Idk

The Sporting Has The Same Engine As The Active Sport But Its 16v?:)

I don't really go into mk2/2b territory much as I have a mk1.
The mk2 sporting is a 16v engine with a 6 speed gear box and has ~80bhp. Although Smokey has a mk2b active sport and that's also a 16v engine, not sure on the Gbox though.
Why does this matter so much to you anyway? lol

Insurance is cheaper than I thought. Did he get that quote on provisional or full uk license as the difference is alot in England. I know my quote with my parents on at one point came to £1950 on full uk license and that's just a 1.2 8v engine!
From looking on the insurance group checking website it comes under group 9!! That's pretty high up for a new driver

Im Thinking About Getting One Aswell Haha, Thats Why Im Interested, It Was On A Full UK License, I Expected It To Be More Expensive Too.

 £1900 for insurance on a 1.9

ive got a 1.2 punto elx and thats £1704 a year and thats with my mom as main driver (full no claims) and me as named driver 17 passed 3-4 months

If thats what he wants and can afford it then why not? The Power + Young driver isn't probably the best thing though.

I had a Mk2 Active Sport as my first car and loved it. Perfect interior, nice with a few tweaks on the outside. Lasted me a good 3 years til I needed a bit more power :)

Whats with "liking the sound of diesel" anyway lol the actual sound or the idea of it?

No I have a 1.2 active sport 16v, that doesn't make it a sporting.

sporting has a better trim level and comes in a 1.4 petrol engine.

As for you mate, tell him to get a mk2b 1.2 16v, awsome little cars and justifiable too.
