I've got a 1.2 8v mk2 punto and I was wondering if I can change the engine for a 1.2 8v out of a mk1 punto? i.e are they the same engine and will my wiring loom, ecu etc work. Cheers

ECUs are different (mk2 - Bosch, mk1 - Magnetti Marelli). Also 1.2 8v mk2 is Multi-Point Injection, whereas the mk1 is Single-Point Injection, so the throttle bodies and inlet manifolds are different. The blocks are the same, and pretty sure the heads are too.

You can get the mk1 multi point injection but I think (and I maybe wrong and please correct me if I am) that the engine mounts are different.

The mk2 engine is complete so I have the engine mount, inlet, injection system, loom, ecu etc etc.

so should i be able to simply swap it all on to a mk1 engine. i.e is the block, head, sump etc the same?

Mk2 Punto 1.2 8v's only take about 3 litres of oil, where the mk1 holds 4, so the sump is different I'm sure.

How old is your mk2? From 2001 (Y reg) the camcover and cam pulley were modified to run a phase sensor setup which the mk1 doesn't have.

Its a 2000 (w) reg, I haven't noticed a cam sensor.

So i'll probably have to swap the sumps over and the oil pick up pipe I guess. Anything else, water pump? flywheel?
