On Monday my 1.2 16V Punto Sporting MK2 went in for it MOT, glad to say it just passed, but after the emissions test was complete and the car was moved out of the MOT bay the radiator failed to engage and the car overheated. The temp was high for about 5mins as the pressure in the cooling system was released and the engine switched off.

When investigating the fan not working I noticed mayo on the underside of the oil cap (haven't driven car since). I have carried out a pressure test with the following readings:

Cylinder 1 - 160PSI
Cylinder 2 - 170PSI
Cylinder 3 - 166PSI
Cylinder 4 - 135-140PSI

Now the Haynes says a compression ratio of 10.6:1, based on 14.7PSI for atmospheric pressure I have came to the following figures:-

Cylinder 1 - 160PSI (10.8:1)
Cylinder 2 - 170PSI (11.5:1)
Cylinder 3 - 165PSI (11.2:1)
Cylinder 4 - 135-140PSI (9.5:1)

Does anyone think that the head gasket could have gone around cylinder 4? I am not so sure since the reading from cylinder 2 is higher than expected by the same amount as cylinder 4 is down.

I am hoping that the head gasket hasn't gone and the mayo has been there since the car was purchased. The next step is to run the car again and keep and eye on mayo situation, oil/water levels.

Thanks
David
