Hi,

I want to change the oil and filter next week on my 2004 Punto HGT.

Had a quick look under the car today whilst it was jacked up but couldn't find the sump plug? Will I have to remove the bottom cover to get to the plug and what tool is required to undo the plug allen key/socket set?

Thanks for your help
Mark

Yes if fitted and use the right tool for whatever the sump plug needs, the sump plug is errr.... on the sump. Its really not rocket science this, are you sure you should be doing the job?

Hi mate,

Sump plug is at the rear of the sump (ie you cant see it from the front its on the rear bottom corner). Its best to remove the under tray when doing the oil service so you have good access to the sump plug and oil filter. As to what tool you require, it depends if the sump lug has been replaced before. Normally iirc its a 13mm allen key. But have a quick look first.

Hope thta helps,
Alan

Ur a nice guy a1ant but seriously, should the OP tackle this with the level of knowledge he has... I mean its critical not to overfill, use the right oil, warm it thoroughly first, get under it safely... Honestly... I was serious, why not take it to a local garage?

Fair play if he wants to learn tho... my bad I guess.

get a haynes manual and have a go thats what im goin to do but ive researched it a bit and not goin to do it by myself just incase somthing goes wrong haha

ffoxy....

i was simply asking where it was and what tool it needed as I only had a quick look the other day whilst I had one of the wheels off and just thought I'd ask for here for advice.

I was in the Royal Navy for 8 years as a Marine Engineer so don't think an oil change will be much of a problem. :yuck:

Thanks for the advice everyone will have a proper look when the weather fines up :)

arcam_boy....

Being in the Navy, Wavy or Royal doesnt mean you know about cars... My Dad was in the Royal Navy too and knew Jack Sh*t about cars but he was spot on with radar!
Maybe it would have been helpful if you had said you know about cars too originally? I just didnt want you to get onto crap with your HGT but if you took my Post as offensive maybe the Navy needs to toughen up its peoples minds and spirits. No offense meant. :p

no offense taken and I'm now a Police officer in west midlands so plenty tough enough thanks (y) I just wanted a bit of advice thats all as I've never worked on or looked at the under side of a Punto before.

I know most people in the Navy know nothing about cars/engines etc but being a marine engineer sort of gives you a bit of a mechanical back ground and certainly enough to change the oil and filter.

:) thats cool and glad we sorted that out! (y)

Congrats on becoming Plod by the way, we have a few other Plods on here, nice folks too! Best £10-£15 you can spend is on a Haynes type manual, it will be your friend in the tough times with your car (we will all have those!)

Whenever one of my kids has a replacement car I get under and all over it to see what jobs will be easy and what will be hard, then I toddle off with it to a trusted local garage for the jobs I dont fancy.

Oh and my bro-in law is a senior officer in West Mids Police.... or was it West Mercia.... no West Mids I think, you may know him, PM me if you are interested lol! (y)
