Technical bad fuel economy punto

Technical bad fuel economy punto

I can certify that the punto 60 S Team (99) is definitely a 47 litre system, and that economy is down nearly half!

I suggest you start looking at the MAF sensor and ensuring all the pipes are sealed and all exist. Afraid my car is now at the garage for it's MOT so a real in depth look is impossible till Thursday at best! (It's there due to my uni timetable, so he has to have it for a day or 2 so I can pick it up again).

The only cold start valve I can see is in the airbox, and I don't have a pipe to direct heat off the manifold anyway

what is MAF sensor??? thanks

MAF stands for Mass AirFlow, it has a pipe coming off the back section of the airboxes and that pipe runs down the back of the engine, mine had a small split in it and when I changed the pipe for a new one the MPG rose some (was a hairline crack). The pipe has a stupid FIAT-jubilee clip on like the radiator hose at the bottom but nothing at the top and comes off the joint to the left where the thin pipe runs down on the left side of the air box assembly there.

Hopefully you understood that (and I remembered the pipes correct use!), if not I'l see if I have a picture, but I don't recall taking one!

it is usally in the area of the thermostate it should be a blue sensor... it has nothing to do with the gauge it tells the ecu when the engine is warm so it can adjust feuling for warm running if it is not reading currectly it thinks its on cold start and will use more fuel...

will have a poke with reguards to this wen its a bit warmer, postively freeeezin atm
thanks

yeh, i guessed this wasnt meant to be lol, i saw it and it looks like a "pikey fix" might see if i can get a new one....but htis is just a breather hose innit?? not REALY important...ok so its not MAF, what next??? thanks :)

I'd be tempted to try some gas leak detector on such joints as that jubilee clip, but i arent sure it's suitable :(

Are you sure all the cylinders are firing? Sure we covered that earlier...
See if you can spot any damage to the plastic like cracks etc and when you get chance try a dual carriage way run as it may simply be all the stop/starting
