May sound like a daft question but does the sat nav in the fiat punto need a yearly subscription? Mine used to work fine, and it may be a coincidence that I've had the battery disconected and now some off the options have a closed padlock next to them, guess this means it's locked? if so how do I unlock it?

Hi John you need a code to activate the sat nav again, the sat navs locked because of the battery being disconnected as you appear to have thought may have been the case. I have a code for my punto's sat nav and one for the cd-changer as well, was with the handbook and all that. Have a search around hopefully you'll find it. :)

Cheers mate think I have two codes, one that's certainly the radio, looks like it's been re-coded though, one unlocks the radio the other fails, found an other code in the handbook which is linked to the one which fails, guess I'll need it re-coding?
Also have you had problems the the CD unit skipping, and saying the cartrige is empty, had it repaired 4 times now and still the same fault.

If the code won't work all i can suggest is take it down to your local Fiat dealership and be prepared to pay gawd knows how many £££ to get a new code. i had to put the sat nav code in mine yesterday after the battery went flat and the code worked fine thankfully. And as for the CD skipping no i haven't had any problems with mine so far, try a cd lens cleaner in it if you're lucky thats all it is.

Hi,

what model year is the car? Are you using the Connect sat nav (built in phone, i think ) or the older one?

I don't know much about the Connect system, i believe you get a one year subscription to that with the car, and then have to pay after that. I have not used this system so i might be wrong.

The older system, has no subscription charge but the discs themselves do get released and updated on a yearly basis ( i have 1999 and 2003, '99 doesn't even believe my village exists! 2003 knows exactly where my house is)

The older one ( the one i have) has only one code, i believe, that you need to enter when powering up after power is disconnected.

I have seen the little padlock symbol appear next to some of the menu items on my sat nav too ( tourist info etc. , i think? ), which items do the padlocks appear next to on yours?

Sorry to ramble, but i hope some of this helps.

Cheers, the sat-nav must be an older one, my puntos a w-reg 2000, had problems with the radio so the code was removed, guess that may be the problem, may need to power down with the code activated again to unlock it? The padlock symbol is on most things I can get my position, but can't program streets and postcodes etc. Fiat said to re-calibrate it, so spent most of yesterday driving round in circles! Lot of good that did!! went back to Fiat not much help, I powered it off and on and eventully it's sorted it's self out. Where can I get an up to date disk for the sat-nav?

From what I know, I believe the type of disc you require for this system is known as a Tele atlas ( DX? i think ) usual retail around £100

Someone is selling the 2004 one on eBay at a cost of £30 on buy it now ( i just searched for Tele Atlas).

I believe it is also possible to download these discs from the internet, but i certainly wouldn't be suggesting that ;)

Out of interest, what was the nature of the problem that caused you to remove the code. Even when correctly wired mine was asking for the code everytime I switched it on (quite annoying).

Guess it's a design feature of the radios then, mine does the same. You can de-activate it by going into the security settings and changing code to "off" drawback to this is that if some g*t steals it they don't need the code! Having said that codes can be bought on e-bay for a fiver
