I thought that the only problem with the air con in my 1.9 jtd was the switch, so when i had a bit of time over the weekend i took it out, got a new switch from fiat and replaced it. The switch now works fine and the light comes on when in is pressed. However the air con is not functioning.
I have seen on other cars that the air con compressor has a kind of clutch on the side, and when the air con is switched on it engages the clutch and spins the compressor. My compressor doesn't seem to have this clutch mechanism and therefore it is difficult to tell whether or not the compressor is actually recieving a signal to be switched on. Any one got any ideas, or shall i just take it to a specialist?

Take it to a garage like kwick fit to check the system for gas. If the switch was broken and the system hasn't been used for a while, the system might have packed up, and had a leak which has either lowered the pressure, or emptied the system of gas compleatly.

Get the system 'charged' and hopefully it should work and that's all it is.

When they connect their air-con re-charger they will be able to tell you if there is or isn't gas, and if the system has a leak. They normally only charge if they re-charge/re-gas the system(y)

Also, if you do get it working, make sure you use the air-con system for atleast 5-10 minutes every week to keep the system running;)
