went past a local garage tonight and saw they had 2 yellow mk2 b active sports next to each other on stand.i was like :O becaus when i looked for mine i couldnt find any local and now theres two at a garage down the road from me.but....i had a closer look and i was happy too see that the yellow wasnt broom yellow, the one had naff chavvy boy racer wheels on and the one was £5000 for a 04 plate and the 2nd was 05 plate at £5300 pounds.

mine was just £3450 :D with only 20k miles on:) so i got a bargain:D.ok ok garages need to make a profit but they do take the pisssss with prices lol.

It never ceases to amaze me how people just don't get how it works!

The reason garages price the cars they sell high is because everyone always wants a discount. If they buy a car for £3k and want to make £1k profit on it they price it up at £5k. Someone shows an interest in it but demands a discount, so they reduce the price to £4k. Buyer thinks he's "beaten" the garage (to this day I still don't know why we have to play this game every time?) and the garage has made the profit they wanted.

The only way they become 'rip-offs' as you so eloquently put it is if somebody actually pays the inflated asking price when they could have paid less, but even then if they are happy paying that price for the car they obviously don't believe they have been "ripped-off" do they?

Contrary to the image of garages perpetuated by people like you there isn't one anywhere that can force anyone to buy a car.

You say yours was £3,450. What was it priced up at when you went to look at it?

the owner wanted 4500 for it. but coudlnt afford insurance so he went for a old beetle so needed cash quickly.ye i guess so they have to maek profit.just sounds daft that there was 55 plate active sports with a few miles on the clock (before they stopped being made) for 6k. and small garages are selling 04 reg's with way more miles on for 5k.
