Cd player drains battery?

Hi all
I am a newbie to your forum and I have a slight problem. I changed my radio cassette over to a JVC Model KD G331 single cd player which you can take the face plate off. But have noticed that the battery has gone flat over the past month. This is all the mods i have done on my 2001 punto 1.2.
Jumped started the car took the cd player out and the next day the car started 1st time no problems put the cd player back in and within a few hours the car was having difficulties starting again. Take the cd player out few hours later the car starts. I am wondering if it is the cd player causing the problem. When you connect the connector into the back of the cd player there is a whirring noise for a second or 2 and this stops. I never leave the face plate on as there is a red light which goes into standby mode and i wondering if the unit is still live even with the face plate off.
With my blaupunkt (low) radio cassette if you left the radio on it would turn itself off after 20 minutes. I am thinking of getting a fiat blaupunkt cd player.
Any suggestion would be appriciated, sorry for the long chapter lol
Regards
Eldon

Re: Cd player drains battery?

Thanks for your reply. I only have 2 connector blocks one has 4 pins and the other has 5 pins. The connector i got with the cd player has 2 blocks leading into 1 which goes into the back of the cd player. The 2 connectors are 8 pins and 5 pins would this make a difference or maybe as you say take the cd player back. No one round here has a cd player i could try.
Regards

Re: Cd player drains battery?

Is there a way to make the cd player to turn on with the ignition and turn it off when i turn the ignition off. I have found out that there is power from the leads when the cars ignition is off and think this could be causing the problem. One of my mates used a meter on the lead that goes into the back of the cd player and it is reading 12 volts, with the ignition off.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Cd player drains battery?

According to another post... you have to swap the red wire with a light green/blue wire. Probably best to find the wire that has voltage once the ignition is on then just swap it with the red. Im gonna try this myself tomorrow

Re: Cd player drains battery?

Ive just noticed something.... although the head unit is now on the ignition, it resets itself everytime i turn it off and on so there no power at all once the ignition is off. Does the thin blue/green cable maybe have to be swapped with the thick red/white instead of red/black?

Re: Cd player drains battery?

I will be doing this at my brothers tomorrrow, (Saturday) He will know. I think one of the wires is for memory, as soon as we or should i say he does figures it out i will post back here. I will tell him about this and he can try the thick red/white first instead of the red/black

Re: Cd player drains battery?

Gareth we swapped the blue/green wire with the thick red/white and the cd did not keep the memory but the cd player worked only on the ignition. Just sat there for half an hour thinking what to do. On the cd plugs there was a red and yellow wire that had connectors in the middle so we swapped those over so part of the red wire connected into the yellow and vice versa and now the cd player only starts with ignition and the unit keeps its memory. Very strange but that has worked. Hope this makes sense to you.
Thanks gareth.j.h thanked for this post

Re: Cd player drains battery?
