Hey, this will probably be a stupid question, but I do not want to mess anything up regarding the steering of the car.

I have a mk2 punto with the ugly plastic steering wheel on. I have just bought a leather sporting steering wheel with airbag from ebay.

I have removed the airbag from my steering wheel, but am having trouble removing the steering wheel nut! It seems to have little metal clips holding it in.

Now my question is, do I just use a flat head screw driver and bend these clips back to access the nut to remove it? I have already removed the plastic cover over the nut.

If I do need to bend the clip back, would I be able to use this clip again on my new wheel? My Haynes manual says that I have to use a new nut when installing a new steering wheel. Is this the case or can I just use my old one?

Thanks for your help. I don't want to mess up my steering and render my car useless :D.

Cheers,
Paul

wtf

its a 24mm nut so use a 24mm socket, not a flathead screwdriver!

Cheers for the help. I will try again now it is light lol.

I will just put the socket over it again and try again, when I tried last night I couldnt get the thing to move, i just kept slipping off when I put too much pressure into it.

I'll give it a go, if I get any problems I'll come back. Thanks guys.(y)

are you sure your socket is a 24mm?

and where abouts are you mate?

also - maybe post up a pic to see if yours is different to ours lol

It was my mates socket set before, I thought that the one he was using was a 24mm but found out today in the light that it wasnt!

Went B&Q and bought a 24mm socket, and the nut came straight off!

Helps when you have the right tools :D.

Thanks for your help. The sporting steering wheel looks great in my car!

as good as mine?

lol

except i had to drive to halfords halfway through to get the right nut so now my airbag light is on permanently grrr

Your one looks cool.

I'm aiming to get mine like that, now need the silver center column in silver and the sporting clocks.

The silver column isn't high on my list, but I really want the rev counter!

yeah i got the silver centre console for £15.. and sprayed the hazard light button panel myself. the clocks i got for £27 and wheel for £40. lol

yay.

Yep, eBay here too. £51! Bargain. They seem to be rare with an airbag, I was lucky to find the auction 15 mins before it ended.

Well worth the money, makes the interior better and the feel of the wheel is so much better than the plastic crap.:D

Hey Doovydoo, where did you get that awesome gear knob? ebay? Out of everything in my front interior, my old-skool gear knob is my biggest pet hate

got it off a car styling website

its called a richbrook slant top gear knob

make sure you get the correct one displaying where reverse is, and how many speed the gearbox is. also make sure its lift up reverse compatible!

Hi, With refrence to the Sporting Speedo do ypu have to take these to a dealer to get the milage swaped over?,
Also you have have to wire anything up?

i seem to answer this questions every other day.

yes you have to go to FIAT for proxy alignment for them to make the LCD screen stop flashing and to correct the mileage. costs about £60.

no other wiring needed.
