Hi as i am a member of the supra fprums i thought i'd check to see if you had one for the Puntp. I recently bought my daughter a punto selecta. My wife was driving it last week, wen going round a round about it lost all drive and a light came on on dash board, fluid was low so i topped it up, no change. Is there a fix for this propblem or is the car scrap.

Hi, I have a mk2 punto and mine lost drive last week when my wife went around a corner, the breakdown told me driveshaft had popped out of gearbox and they just lifted it back in. Put car in garage day after and it just needed gearbox oil and a new clip, might not be as bad as you think
 
not thought to check that but no fluid on floor so may be not the cause but was driving fine before hand. thanks
 
dont know if it will help in this case but it might be worth a go,,if no-one comes on to violently disagree,,try disconnecting battery overnight have heard in some cases it will reset memory ,,at the least you will be no worse off

would be inclined to look towards throttle switch aswell.

Thought my supra was complicated but this is bloomin worse. Bring back the ford cortina i say.(n)

erm if the throttle switch is faulty the gearbox will still drive the car as soon as it sees more revs on the engine try revving one from under the bonnet and you will soon discover this posibly to your disadvantage as your standing in front of it

i think it's likely to be a problem with the electro clutch not getting it's power as the gearbox is engaged buy a manual cable operation between forward and reverse and the cvt belt should drive if the clutch is working as it has no form of disengagement other than the clutch check all fuses for gearbox ecu

these cars do have water problems on the connector block to the ecu on the gearbox from time to time it's a common thing
 
I have been told by a gear box company that these boxes are known to drop or snap the gearbox pump shaft, does any one know is this a job i could do at home?
 
rubbish never heard of it

it seems very unlikely for such an integral part to fail after all these gearboxes have been designed over many years i should think their just trying to sell you a reckon unit buy taking it up to be worse than it is

the 2 major faults on these boxes are clutch bearing this just makes it hard to select forward and reverse due to the drag turning the box unfortunately a hole new clutch unit has to be purchased to get this bearing at 600 quid or there about but this wont stop it driving

the second is electrical problems due to water or rear light earth's they are the most common

other things that have gone wrong are valves going faulty but these are quite easy to replace

but best thing you can do as the light has been on is have the codes read from the ecu then we can tell you what needs done and how much it's gona cost you

as the box has stopped driving and the light is on i would assume the ecu is taking action not to engage the electro clutch due to a fault or perceived but not necessarily present fault that could cause damage to the box if it were driven a kind of safe mode if you will the fact the light is on means the ecu is doing something and not completely dead

so it has to be an electrical short or break or a faulty component or a reading out of safe range for example oil pressure, valves not functioning internal rpm sensors, torque sensors

just to give an idea of how many things could cause it to stop

most of the time with these systems it's something silly and chep to fix so it's worth spending some money just to find out whats wrong

going with electric fault as fault. light went out wen put my foot on the brake a few times and it engaged gear for a fraction
 
make sure brake lights are operating normally might be a problem with the brake light switch as this is connected to the gearbox ecu also

all thout normally they will still try and overdrive the bakes so cant see why it would stop it driving

maybe it's an electrical fault on the multi pin connector to the ecu and pressing the brake has just caused it to work by interrupting a partial short from water damage or whatever

seems pretty random what it does

are you getting the codes read any time soon

Local dealer computer has been sent to itally as it's broken can't find any one else to read them
