Hi all,
I have a x reg punto 1.2 sporting 16v.
initally having problems with starting in the mornings, jump starts fine and then normally will start first time for the rest of the day.
Now after opening key to change battery, the car will not start. Noticed key code light stayed on with engine management light. Checked manual and it refers you to use the emergency start and take the car to dealer. I understand the emergency start but I have no code.
I have only one blue key and no code. I spoke to nearest dealer and they said to get the car to them , 40 miles away in Windermere. probably needs new transponder fitting.
Sounds expensive, I've been stung before by main dealers when they only replaced a fuse, my fuse from the glove box.-150 later.
anyone any ideas?
Like I said it all began when I opened the key up to change the battery. Five minutes previous to that it started fine, all be it with a jump start.

Hey, could be a new battery needed in the car? I'm not certain but it sounds familiar to my problem, although my punto doesn't have central locking.

Sounds as though you lost the transponder when you opened up the key. look for the glass vial type or black oblong type. If you cant find it then its the dealers I'm afraid.

if you do a search for "transponder" look at post "programming blue key" posted on 18-9-2007 scroll down and there is a couple of photos showing inside if key with the chip ,,,as in previous post ,,make sure its there

i work at windermere

and believe me it's the best dealer you could posibly take it with code problems me and my dad know the system very well and will not replace anything unless we can prove for sure it's faulty

most of the time we find it's an earth fault or something similar as the code system tends to be quite reliable

as people have said it sounds like you have lost the chip from the key maybe

if it's still there check it's not cracked or something

and make sure it's clipped in the proper place

it's posible to get a code for your car but a case needs to be opened with fiat to get it so not just a case of ordering the card

Sorry been workin away. When I got back I Looked again inside the key and your all right I've lost the transponder.
so its up to Fiat in Windermere after christmas. Can littlepip17 tell me when it will be open again. Cheers and happy christmas to you all and thanks for the advice.(y)

i would leave it untill next Monday as me and my dad are taking a few days off in a staggered fashion we will all be back buy then day before new year or after the new year

also if you don't have your red key it's gona be a case of replacing the hole system

keys locks and ecus

not sure exactly how much that cost's believe it's over 400

so depends how much you want to keep the car or not being an x reg 16v i certainly would

we have a yellow seichento currently waiting for this lot to arive and be fitted

can you not retrace your steps and find the chip were you opened the key
