The car is relativley new, 03, with only 22k miles.

It's averaging about 34.5 mpg and I dont know why.

The oil does seem a bit higher than the max, and the radiator water is also a bit higher than max, although this isnt my doing, just a crap garage who done a service for me.

I treat the car pretty well and I drive it at the right revs too, It just doesnt increase.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Ye it's the 8v.

And yes, :( I have sadly been listening to the computer haha.

last service was over a year ago, although the car has been inactive for around that length of time.

It's just a little while ago, it was doing at least 40mpg.

I guess it may be smaller routes that i'm taking etc.

I'll have to work out the mpg manually to get a proper reading i guess.

Cor blimey, apparently i drive 'perkily', my non-correct running 2000 1.2 8v gets over 45mpg on my semi stop-start drive to and from work, and over 55mpg on the motorway!

Definately check your tyre pressures, they will ruin your economy. Also could be minor brake binding somewhere, might be wise to have a look.

thanks for all your comments.

I'll take the car to a garage as soon as I can to get an oil change.

I'll also take a look at the air filter.

The tyre pressures are 30 on the front and 29 at the back right? Thats what im running on.

done the air filter, doing the oil tommorow now.

I watched a vid on how to do it :p.

I would definitely recommend a petrol treatment like redex or one of the other brands, this helps clean the injectors, but it may also pay to get the garage to clean the injectors when they look at it.
It may also be wise to check if your car is racing at high revs than it should, as this would be using more fuel when your stuck at lights. The revs should be idle at about 800-900 even the slighest increase means your using extra fuel.
As previously said, tyre pressures should be checked, but also make sure you're not tearing around the place, revving high when moving off etc, I know it sounds daft but I'm sure we all do it without realising.

red ex works wonders
i think thers 2 types for petrol engine's :eek:S
anyhoo change the oil and giv it sum red ex and if you replace the air filter go for sumthing race-ish like K&N panel filters.
i know it sounds daft but they last longer and come with million mile warranty
and ther re-usable just re oil it and re use it

Fantastic goods from you, man. I have understand your stuff previous to and you are just too wonderful. I actually like what you have acquired here, really like what you're stating and the way in which you say it. You make it enjoyable and you still take care of to keep it smart. I cant wait to read far more from you. This is really a terrific site.

Re: dj-na-wesele

Slightly too much oil in the sump or "water" in the radiator wont do any harm. If the oil has sat un-used for a year it should be changed as it oxidises.

Ignore the trip computer - the only accurate mpg is fuel tank brim to brim.

Naughty me? I didnt (re) start it (but didnt call a halt either).
