Is there anybody out there who can help. I have read somewhere that you can get head gaskets which are edged with silicon, and that these are more robust that the normal ones.

Last year I renewed the head gasket, but my Punto 55 is showing all the signs of going again (I used new bolts, and torqued in the right sequence and even bought the angular torque gizmo etc).

Does anybody know if silicon edged head gaskets exist and if so where could I purchase one?

did you skim the head as well to ensure a good mating surface?

I think that's where I went wrong - I needed that car so had to get it boxed up quickly but in my defence there didn't appear to be any pitting on the head. I think this time I will go the full hog and have the head skimmed -thanks

yeah its not just the pitting if your head gasket has gone and it over heats it can warp ever so slightly therefore its not 100% pure flat wich obviously can cause problems when you are trying to join to flat services together perfctly
