O.k im not 100% its HG related but my 1.2 8v 2000 is quite alot more sluggish than other 1.2 8v's ive driven and it can't even reach 100mph!
Am currently having clutch changed, gearbox serviced and new seals and new water pump but if the head has gone and needs changing then i really wana have a go at doing in myself...Im very technically minded and can take most things apart, see whats wrong and put it back together no problems so i think il be o.k but the only thing is as im having the water pump changed now, will i have to change it again?!
Also if any1 has done this to their car, how long, from start to finish is it likly to take??

Any help is good. (y)

no no need to change the pump again as it's mounted in the block

the cam belt will how ether need to come off again but I'm sure you know this already

when you get the head off get it skimmed and clean up the block with some emery paper till it is all clean metal again

best get your hg from fiat as it comes with all the other necessary seals and such and they are perfectly reliable and a good price

the head tightening torque is
30 nm
pluss 90 degrese
pluss 90 degrese

and the tightening order is

10 6 2 5 8
9 3 1 4 7
I think can someone confirm that might be a mirror version on that maybe

you should also undo the head in the reverse to the tightening order

to put the cam belt back on look here

and jobs a gooden

if your fast you can have the head off in 30 minutes and back on in maybe 50 including cleaning and preparing all surfaces and seals

the head would need skimming for this you should expect about 30 pounds and a few hours at your local metal machining shop I'm sure they will have skimmed plenty of punto heads before I think every metal shop in the world has buy now lol

are you sure it is the head gasket have you tried getting a second opinion from the guys fitting your clutch and water pump or has your car been loosing water and over heating

might be something as simple as a lambda sensor
