Hello!

I have a 2001 1.9 JTD ELX, and when I'm using a/c I keep hearing strange hissing noises about every 3-4 seconds or so. Does anyone have any idea what this might be? It sounds like some gas being let out from a valve, or some sort of belt not being tight enough - but it's definitely only present when a/c is on, and I haven't heard this sound in any other a/c-fitted car.

Also, is there a step-by-step description somewhere (or could someone post one) about how to get inside the a/c unit and clean it with the anti-bacterial/fungal spray, as the air smells really bad and I've tried with those sprays that you circulate from inside the cabin, but they only last for a week or so.

I've been given a quote of over EUR 100 for the cleaning+replenishing the a/c with gas, which seems very steep to me?!?

Hissing is normal. You can claean the A/C youself by using some A/C cleaner from halford or the like. Start the engine, turn on your a/c on full. Push the nob to make the air-recurculate, let off the a/c spray inside the car.... get out of the car and close the door. Leave the spray and a/c going for 10 mins or so. Job done!
