1.6 mjet Sporting

Hi all,

Basically looking at a new car, to replace my trusty old mk2 punto.

I'm interested in the 1.6 mjet grande punto or punto evo, just wondering does this have the same m32 box the 1.9 mjet had or is it a different box.

And which ever box it has does it give much trouble or am I best sticking with a 1.4 t-jet/multiair.

Thanks.

Re: 1.6 mjet Sporting

I believe it is the same m32 gearbox as the 1.9.Ive owned a 1.6mj gp for 5 years and have had no trouble, but to be honest I am a low mlieage user.It has never been, even from new, what I would call a nice box but seems reliable enough.Hope I`m not tempting fate here.

Tbh the m32 seems to give some nothing but trouble, while others are completely trouble free.

What sort of mileage does your car have and has it been reliable?

The 1.6 mjet I'm looking at has 60k on it which is nothing for a diesel but I don't know a lot about the 1.6.

Thanks

Re: 1.6 mjet Sporting

I couldn't say about the 1.6 m-jet but I do have a 1.4T m-air, the gear changes just feel long to me. But other than that I couldn't complain.

As I said I am a low mileage user, very low in fact.with just over 20k on the clock, mainly short trips, probable meaning more gearbox usage than long hauls. The box has been completely reliable but has always been a bit notchy a trait that I`m not really bothered about.Reliability of the car has been fine and is a real breeze to drive with loads of bottom end torque and a very good turn of speed. There were some initial worries about the dpf but this has proved to be completely groundless.Fuel economy is very good I`m getting about 53 mpg at the moment,it has been better at nearer 58 mpg.As you say 60k is no big deal for an engine of this type if all else is ok then perhaps it is worth considering.Best of luck.

If like the Bravo it'll only be the M32 if its a Dualogic, but cannot be certain.

Re: 1.6 mjet Sporting

I have the 1.6 multijet evo sporting with 57k on the clock. In the past I had a 1.9 multijet gp that I acquired with about 20k on the clock and ran for about 2 years. Gear changes on both are exactly the same (notchy like Les38 says but nothing that bothers me). I bought the gp to replace a mk2 sporting and I wasnt disappointed so I dont think you'll be! Also something that really appealed to me was the fact that there were apparently ony 124 punto evo sportings with the 1.6 multijet engine registered in the uk. Hope this helps.
