Re: Condensation in both rear light clusters!

hi guys

i'm new to your forum,i'm staying in South africa, i bought a 2013 fiat punto 1.4 pop and i also have the same with my rear taillight fogging up, replaced 3 times and now they said they ordered super ceded taillights which will sort out the problem, waiting for them to call so it can be fitted. i also have problems with my glovebox not lining up, so they have a super ceded part for that as well, aparently the lock catch is wrong design. all these problems on a brand new car, not even 2000km on the clock.

I see your post was done in the year 2010 and 2011, i'm experiancing this in 2013, you guys have fixes to this yet?

thanks

gerrie

Re: Condensation in both rear light clusters!

Hello everybody, I'm new here in the forum, I'm from Brazil and I'm sorry if I wrote something wrong, I'm using Google translator to help me write to you.

In the middle of last year began selling the FIAT Punto EVO here in Brazil, but we have the same problem of condensation in the taillights like you, out there FIAT managed to solve? We are running after the authorities here and newspapers so they replace the parts with this defect since here the FIAT says that is normal.

Regards and thanks,

Re: Condensation in both rear light clusters!

We are with the same problem in Brazil... Fiat says that is completely normal (maybe is feature to clean the lens /irony) and advised its dealers to not replace taillights with this problem. Don't know if they are searching for a solution or just ignoring the problem. Now we are using news websites to "open Fiat's eyes". I'm waiting for a call of my dealer to place the point on "Punto" writing ate the back of my car (it came without it and you read Pun-o. I say that I have a Punto with no punto) and they will also check my taillights.

I can't believe they are ignoring the problem all around the world! In Brazil fiat does not have a great reputation because of Tempra 16v; Fiat Tipo (that used to catch on fire); Fiat 147 (that had 147 problems when released); Stilo (with flying wheels), and now they ignore another problem with Punto EVO (Bravo has the same problem)...

Re: Condensation in both rear light clusters!

It is a problem since the EVO serie. Before, there was only bulbs here in the Grande Punto serie. Now brakes and indicator are bulbs, but are often off. Standlight are LEDs, almost no heat.

But this is not normal in any way to have mist in light clusters. In my Mk2 punto it was front light, and now rear light.. .Perhaps with the front of my Punto 2012 and rear of my Mk2 it will be ok ?

Seriously, I will go to my dealer and see what he say. This is not a major problem for a recall, but for clients they asking to Fiat must correct this.

Re: Condensation in both rear light clusters!

Mix both models hahaha. Certainly it isn't. The grande Punto in Brazil didn't have problems with taillights. Actually the model was really successful in Brazil. Great for the price of 13k pounds (considering a rate of 1 pound to 3 reais).

After posting, my dealer called me and told me to go there because the dot had arrived. When I arrived there, I told the guy about the taillights. For my surprise, he fitted two brand new taillights (a week ago they ordered the taillights after my complain). I'm really happy with my dealer. Excellent service! I was expecting something like: it's normal (like a lot of brazilians heard at dealers); but they just did it.

They washed the car and nothing happened, but since is the temp is 21 Celsius I don't think it would. I will let the car enjoying sun at the weekend then I will post my results.

Re: Condensation in both rear light clusters!

Can be a solution, but I love the LED design of these lights

Grande Punto did not have problem yep. Started with Evo.
Grande had a lot of success here, too. But Brazil is Fiat country : more than 20% market share no ?

For mist in lights, went to my dealer today. He know the problem and he said it will try to fix it (he had something to change to help ventilate) if it can't, new clusters.
I have a great dealer too

Waiting your results after some day or weeks

Re: Condensation in both rear light clusters!

It's a Fiat country because of Fiat Mille (also known as UNO 1990) the cheapest car here for 7k pounds (if I not mistaken). The others are not so famous (because of the problems in the past), there is a prejudice on Fiat. I don't mind, problems happen to any car and Punto and Bravo have a great cost x benefit (better than others). I'm liking my car (my first by the way) and every single person who rides on the car likes it. My stepfather (which find problems with any car) liked my Punto (but he love his Alfa 164 so I don't think he is a parameter hauaha).

I will keep you in touch.

Re: Condensation in both rear light clusters!

Hey there,
I washed my car and I let it drying on the sun (it's not to hot, but sufficient to dry the car in 5 minutes under the sun). I'm not going to say I'm a 100% sure, but it looks like I will never see condensed water again inside my taillights!

If I see it again, I tell you.

Re: Condensation in both rear light clusters!

Okay thank you, good new

Hope it is really fixed, too.
I think this is only a production issue for some batches, as I know Evo's and 2013's they dont have this problem.

I'll keep you informed as soon they fixed mine

Re: Condensation in both rear light clusters!

I had a similar issue with condensation in the rear lights of my Punto Evo 2012, I had both of them replaced after several heated discussions with my local dealership.
However, 6 months later, the problem is back, I have now given up!

Re: Condensation in both rear light clusters!

Im having this issue on my Abarth Supersport. So is there now a fix from the UK dealers? I dont see the point in asking them if its not going to get fixed. I was thinking about drilling some small holes in the unit to let the water out.

Re: Condensation in both rear light clusters!

Hi
My jet black2 is booked in for the uk update on this issue. My condensation has only popped up in the last month. Lets hope it sorts it out as some people sound like they have had a nightmare.

Condensation in both rear light clusters!

Unfortunately, the 'fixed' clusters have exactly the same issue. I have had both on mine replaced and have noticed an increase of moisture in both lenses over the last few weeks.

Having opened one up to see what is inside, they are not air tight and seem to allow air through where the wires connect. With the heating of the clusters in sunlight, this will allow air to move in and out, with moisture being trapped inside.

However, I may have found a fix... Inside the cluster there is sufficient space for a 25g bag of silica gel. I only did this a week ago but the moisture appears to have been absorbed and the clusters are clear.

Not ideal, but it works.

And, for the record, it is a 13 plate.
