I ordered a punto evo gp 1.4 8v few weeks ago.

basically i was due to pick my car up yesterday, as i was on my way they told me that there is a fault on my car (engine not running right) and it needs a new gasket and manifold.

im not a mechanic but both of them seem like major parts, i am very worried now that im not going to know if it still broke on pick up and if i will be going back to the dealer every week :(

i dont supose anybody knows of a comon fault (with them two parts on this engine) or wht it could possibly be ?

IVE POSTED THIS A FEW TIMES (SORRY) BUT I AM PICKING IT UP TONIGHT AND WANT TO KNOW IM NOT GETTING SHAFTED :(

I dont think this is a common issue, As their is a post and I`ve not seen this mentioned. There has been ONE user who has had major engine problems and had to leave his car for a week for investigation, Hopefully its not the same :(

ive just spoken to fiat (useless by the way) and they have told me it had something to do with the 'swirl manifold/gasket'. he said there was i 'nick' in it and therefore not running right due to correct air/o2 mix.

doesn't sound as bad as i thought :)

picking it up in an hour, cant wait!

i wouldnt worry, at least they have informed you it needed replacing.

If problems occur just hand it back, but i'd be not bothered if it runs ok. If it starts to play up within a week its obvious something is up.

Yes, i agree.. I don't know weather it is just me but when im sat still with engine running it seems to have a few v v v minor shakes, AK i just being picky haha?

Ow and does anyone know how I have turned the gear shift indicator on the dash display OFF?

the gear shift indicator only pops up at certain times, such as your holding a constant speed in a gear too low, such as at 30 at 2k rpm in 4th is wrong so it says shift up to 5th and so on, but i think it needs to be doing it for 10-15seconds before it tells you to change, it also flashes it off if you release the accelerator totally.

the 1.4 8v is a noisey engine, but to get better fuel consumption on earlier styled engines you do lose refinement which gets replaced with noise.

Thanks for that, it does work like you said haha..

I kind of like the noise though, doesn't sound too much like a hair dryer :) but I've only had a few low litre cars and this is great up to now!

I think there is condensation in both rear lights which has slightly worried me slightly, will check it in he morning.

Yeah I'd get that looked at, I've removed both my rear lights to install silver looking indicator bulbs and the rubber seal can easily be fitted wrong allowing water in causing damage! I'm not sure how much a new rear light cluster costs as it now has LED bulbs for sidelights, which when they fail, the whole light has to be replace

Thanks for that, fiat are sorting it when I get my rubbing strips on in a few weeks :) how do the sliver bulbs look? Are they legal? And i dont supose you know if the wind deflecors on the evo are the same as the grande ?

I noticed slight condensation in both rear lights on mine today since you mention it. It was very humid tonight and the paintwork of my car was covered.

I wonder if the air inside the lights will always have some natural humidity - and will show up whenever conditions outside are cold enough?

I've had other cars that did the same - eg a 306 with clear headlights - and it never caused a problem.

I'll keep an eye on it though and see if they start filling with water !

Yes, sounds exactly like mine... its a very common problem and apparently it will only take fiat10 mins to re-fit them both. I'd just take a picture when it happens to show them and book it in at the dealer. (y)

I also get the condensation in the rear lights. Washing my car the other day in the sun, I noticed they were sort of steaming up. Clears pretty quickly though.
