Well, on Monday I got in my car, reversed out of the drive way, first gear, pulled slowly down the street & the car spectacularly "kangaroo'd" until i put my foot-down harder.

Figured this was just me being abit soft with the pedal (though, very odd.)

I just left my dads house, first gear was fine but i had my foot-down abit firm, hit second gear to cruise up to the T-Junction, and i noticed i look like a bobbing head, rev's were fluctuating from 2,000rpm to about 2,200rpm (so, very small fluctuation)

But it was most certainly a fault & not my driving.

Though, after putting foot-down & pulling away more aggressive its perfectly fine.

Any ideas? if not, I'll ring dealership tomorrow to get the car looked at + I'll get them to look at my blue&me system that keeps rebooting randomly!

Note: I dont know why i put a "-" in Kangrooing.

you have all the luck!

No kidding, seems my poor Evo has been in the dealership more than its been in my driveway!

Though, i must admit this is the first thing it's had to go in for im actually abit peeved about.... little software glitches i can understand full well, but mechanical could potentially leave me stranded 150 miles away from home. (n)

not acceptable!

Brother says it could be air/fuel mixture, sticky valve, or sommit else to do with the air.

Could easily be the air intake stuff as the Evo uses new air intake things.

Sorry to hear that. Can't say I've had anything similar (yet) on my MA turbo.

Hopefully it may just need a little tweak, perhaps best to get it checked out with the dealer. Like you say, wouldn't want to get stuck away from home.

Well, cars now in the dealership 5:30.

They'll be putting it on the computer n seeing if theres any faults, not much else i can ask for as the problems so intermittent, hasn't happened at all since friday (and monday before that.)

They'll also be checking the Blue&Me system as it randomly reboots everything when playing music & randomly starts up from Track 1 of the USB stick etc. (Also, intermitent so couldnt show it)

With the B&M I've been told by the master tech using a memory stick greater than 2gb can cause problems and they only use 2gb as per fiat recommendation, But he admitted thats probably not the problem in this case.

been told the engine checked out fine on the computer, but its a new engine/new car so Fiat will be releasing alot of updates etc so if there is a glitch it'll get ironed out.

Blue&Me system is down to the TomTom + my EcoDrive installation not getting along, will be a new update on fiat website to fix this soon.

Well that's good news and I suppose not so good if they didn't get to the root of it yet.

But hey-ho, it's a new model and it's bound to have some glitches. Just a little annoying though.

They are selling a rather expensive piece of kit that doesn't work? And they know about it? Shocking

RE: Kangaroo-ing

Well, after completely forgetting about this, it happened again to me today.

Is this something with the MA engine or start/stop?

Today I let the start/stop kick in while waiting in town. Rather slow driving so I thought I'd let it do it, rather than switch the button on.

Upon attempting to move away from lights, the engine started, started to drive off and it juddered like mad trying to stall. Trust me, I know how to drive after 13 years! My passenger asked if we drove over a cattle grid!!

Not sure I can blame the start/stop exactly, as it seems to be something to do with the engine starting. Whether it was stopped via the start/stop or not.

Last time it was at a fuel station, with the engine off. Upon starting it, it juddered like this.

Yeah S&S causes me issues at times aswell, ive been driving for 10 years and driven a few different cars, i end up learning to "trust" the S&S then it does something to put me back on step one.

Normally it's a Start&Stall, presumably because ive tried pulling away during the S&S startup rather than waiting for it. But the whole point of this system is for the engine to be on before you need to pull away...

Only once have i had it judder to the point of wanting to stall after S&S, but still its once more than it should of done.

That said, my car still gets the kangroo'ing problem when pulling away after a fresh start (not necessarily a cold start)... when using casual/slow pulling away acceleration, Still cant find any reason for it, and a quick blip does get rid of it & it doesn't come back, but it happens so rarely its impossible to demonstrate, once every 2-3 weeks generally & i cant find a way to "make" it do it.

I had a kangarooing problem with my Matiz (which has run for 63 k kms) for the last six months. Ever since it started there was fuel smell coming from the exhaust and the spark plugs were getting black quite fast. It was clear that the engine was running rich. However the mileage had dropped only by 1 km or so per litre of fuel. The regular workshop tried many things (temporarily replacing the coil, ECM, plugs and oxygen sensor, checking the fuel pump etc.) but could not solve it. Recently I remembered that the kangarooing had started a few days after I had changed the cambelt (timing belt) in the same workshop. So today I took the car to another workshop and asked them to check the mechanical timing.

They opened the camshaft cover and took the belt out, and found that the setting of the wheels was off by "one tooth" which translates to more than 10 degrees variation in the timing of the engine. The mechanic said that the ECM cannot completely correct such a high variation in timing, even if it tries its best. They reset the wheels to the correct position, and now the car runs fine without kangarooing. No fuel smell from exhaust now. Haven't checked the plugs yet, will do it later.

So I think it is a good idea to check the mechanical timing of the car when the Kangarooing is not solvable by other means.
