Hi to all i am new to the forum - can anybody help re problem with marea 2.4td - lost 5th gear -presume its the syncro! Where can i find details on dismantling box - has anyone tried ? hope its not a new box.

a scrapyard box will cost you £100 or less. its quicker and easier to replace rather than repair.

where would you get a new synchromesh from? i tried to recon a box a few years ago and i couldnt get the spare parts. even gearbox recon buisnesses would not help me. they would only offer to do it for me (at a greater cost than a scrapyard box).

I agree with Jug.
I melted the syncro on my 20V box. Mechanic priced 2 options for me. One was repair and the other was fitting a second hand box. The price of the parts alone for the repair were more than the total cost of a second hand box and fitting.
