Ok so heres the situation, over next month or so im wanting to get exhaust sorted, will either be a custom job (Duplex 3 or 3 and half inch pipes, one pipe each side), however am weighing up the points of both and not sure which to go for. Im sure many people know of the old custom vs off shelf debate but heres the key points anyway

Custom;
Get the look i want (Duplex pipe each side job)
Get the sound i want (loud :D)
Possible Increase in power but not guarenteed

Off Shelf;
Not really the look i want,
Not really any about that have the sound i like, as sportex are now out of production,
Practically guarenteed increase in power

So which do i go for :cry:

(Note custom job would probably be a trip to longlife or a small garage that does them :D, not a powerflow job, too many bad experiences/stories with them)

you seen my powerflow, i wouldnt recommend them again :mad:

like i said on msn, im sure peco will do a custom exhaust for you, so i would imagine you get performance and style

Have you thought of Magnex or Scorpion or Mongoose I'm sure they all do exhausts that fit your car. I would say be careful of some backboxes/custom made exhausts there was a story a couple of years ago that some of them actually sap power from the engine.

Ive suggested that Dave...apparently its as bad as a fake turbo...

My recommendation if youre going duplex is stay 1.75" - 2" throughout then have a big fat tailpipe. Much wider than a 2" bore for the system on the car will compromise the power delivery quite a bit.

If youre gonna go that far though...Id also look into getting a manifold developed (4-2-1. aim for max torque ~3500 rpm) (y)

tom; if it goes custom job it wont b silly bore all thru, just the tailpipe, wanna keep some backpressure :p

Dont want to get a fake 2nd pipe, as imo they look tacky :(

And if i had cash i'd get a supersprint manifold modded to fit mpi.... possibly at a later date :( :D

i think magnex may do exhaust for sei (if not discontinued tho lol)... dont think mongoose do nor Scorpion though

Cheers,
Alex

dont know idf you remember my powerfloe but can highly recommend them, top notch exhausts! dont do fake second pipe,cos thats the most common question i get-unttil i start it up then smirk at the people who think it is! (y)

here's one for ya - how does this affect MOT's. I know from being a biker that its easy enough to slip another end can on the exhaust for the sake of the MOT but what do you do with a loud pipe on a car.

Sorry if this sounds like a daft question but I've never wanted to put a loud pipe on a car before - not until I bought the Cinq - I think it has to be done in a way.

:) I think that for cars,it's down too the MOT mans discretion.For bikes it's no b/s required for bikes made before 01/01/85,& after this it's boring ole b/s stamped exhausts to be legal. :( Great init! :confused: (n) One rule for them,& another for us bikers. :rolleyes: Ah, I see that you are a local dude in a local place as well according to your sig. The place in Reading where i had mine done last saturday is very good theyre quite a small garage and they make custom exhausts with cobra exhaust parts, which is the same as that website above seem to use. They come with a lifetime garantee (sp) as well and theyre not that expensive either. A lot of people at my work today were surprised at how cheap i got mine done for :)
