I don't like 'em, one or two look OK (M5 XXX plates on an M5, XXXX TVR on a TVR etc) but I think names are really tacky. i.e. I could have "XXXX JON" on my car quite cheap, or "K1 RKY" for a lot more, but why would I want to?!?!

Again, you're assuming people are buying them because they're bothered about what others think of them. Isn't it possible they buy them for themselves, for their own enjoyment / satisfaction?

666 always looks tacky...very wannabe mini-mosher-esque

I want 666 plates, cos I worship the devil, not cos I listen to crap music.... ;) Moshing has never been on the agenda.

I wanted M4 TTB, but that was sold. I was just about to get M40 TTB but that got sold in the time it took me to make up my mind.

as long as they read what they are supposed to say, i love them - one of my friends had N444 MAT as his plate - i thought this was crap cos the N444 didnt mean anything

Being that the 444 was a long standing joke between friends , you would not know that it did or did not mean anything! The 444 was a moto from the younger days on bikes So my Plate N444 MAT has meaning to me and that is all it has to do or count for since its my investment, and had trebbled in value also.

I have a private number plate and the only downside to them is the dam transfer fee's when you want to change cars it can cost you upto £200 each time, that's if you have to put it on retention before you can transfer it to a new vehicle otherwise it's about £80 to transfer it

Eh

£80 transfer fee + £25 (a year) retention fee = £105 to place a plate on retention for a year.

Where did £200 come from? lol

the £200 came from a quote i had from DVLA i wanted to put the plate on retention from 2 months until my new car was ready for collection they have asked for £80 transfer fee plus £25 and then they want another £80 to transfer it to the new car.

i even have it in writing from them confirming the price, as i thought it was as you have suggested :(

according to them £80 covers a tranfers from one vehicle to another in one go, but if you want to put it onto retention you then have the fee again to transfer it to the new vehicle
