Hi!

Just wondering if anyone else has replaced the door mirror on their mk2 Panda with the new shape wing mirrors? If so, how easy was it and what were the steps! Tried to find instructions on the internet but nothing at all has popped up!!!!

Also, for the mk2 style wing mirrors, how easy is it for the cover to come off to be painted! The plain black isn't really doing it for me anymore! Wanting to match the colour of the car to the wing mirrors!

Thanks!

I hydro-dipped mine in carbon effect.

Was all very easy.

I broke a few clips forcing them off, but I think this was unavoidable.

I used some shoe-goo when sticking them back on and they are very firmly fixed.

Just noticed you were talking about the larger 2010+ ones.

Don't know about them. I prefer the small ones, except when I'm trying to reverse!

Just to note, yours is a Mark 3 Panda. The cake fed newer model is a Mark 4.

Do you have the smaller mirrors on your Panda and if so, are you wanting the larger ones? The later Mark 3 cars had larger mirrors which will suit fine if that's what you're after.

Yes, you can fit the bigger ones on mk2 or the smaller ones on mk3.
Taking the covers off to paint them is possible, but you are likely to break at least one clip (or at least bend it so it is pretty useless). Even more likely to break when cold.
There's a couple of Youtube videos which I can't find at the moment, but as far as I can remember there are 2 long clips near the top and 1 on each side.

I used plastic primer and body-colour paint on the standard black ABS plastic.
Normal primer flakes off.

Done this on both small and large mirrors. Works fine.

I've now got the later large mirrors on mine. The aftermarket ones for 2010-2012 models are a straight replacement. You probably can't find specific RHD ones, but the ones marketed for RHD are just LHD ones. The adjustment of the glass is just about good enough, I can see a little too much car, but more than compensated for by the bigger view anyway.

Difficult to get the old covers off without breaking the clips that hold them on. So need new covers, or a bit of sealant type glue. New mirrors come with covers, so you choose black or primer. Aftermarket ones are manual or electric, but despite what they may say, they are not heated. I could not find aftermarket heated ones. Would have liked to add that feature, but I'll just have to continue to scrape in winter.

With the door open, prise the little triangular cover off, gently.
Now it gets a little tricky. The mirror is held on by a big plastic nut, sadly not hexagonal. Large circlip pliers did it for me, a bit fiddly, especially as they have barbs in the thread to prevent them loosening.

The originals have a bit of foam between the mirror mounting and the door. This stops it vibrating and keeps water out. The replacements did not have this. I went to B&Q and got some black foam draught excluder. A bit fiddly to cut and stick it, but seems to work well.

The bottom two lines are the later larger ones. Other suppliers are available.

Yes! This is exactly what I'm looking for!
