Technical Skydome replacement cost?

I know how you feel. I had the same difficulty with parts for mine. The repair place were ordering parts through a place which had lost the Fiat franchise and only was a service place. I believe they ordered the wrong parts in twice!

At least I had a courtesy car (which I made the husband drive while I took the Honda Accord off him :D).

What was actually wrong with yours besides the glass? How did they go about the disassembly of the components? Did they managed to return everything to how it was before? (i.e. not leaking, closing properly, functioning correctly etc.)

It was smashed by a large stone (larger than fist size) which landed to the passenger side near to the edge. I was lucky to have it land passenger side and have the blind closed. It damaged the runner on that side and that had to be replaced as well as the glass panel.

When I got my car back, there was a downpour on my way home and I ended up with a wet bum, however when I brought it back to them, they took five minutes to tighten things up, then they tested it using their pressure washer and that was it sorted.

I don't think they were that clued in on what the actual part they required was, so they used a trial and error method of ordering the parts.

Another sour Direct Line claim (n)

They should be using Fiat really for this, and they advise they use 'approved repairers'. It's a joke (n)

It’s either 'approved repairers' (i.e. auto-glass or UK Assistance) or nothing!
Seems like the last option is the one I'll be left with. Next Tuesday it will be 5 weeks since the incident and 5 weeks without a car. I'll then have to find a garage myself to carry-out the work, but at least I will have more input then! It seems as if I know more about what's involved than UK Assistance! It is becoming clearer, now that I've studied it a little more, that one or both of the vessels will be damaged and need to be replaced as well as the glass.

Finally, I come bearing some good news!! :D The car is back and repaired!

Last Thursday everything looked grim, the parts hadn't arrived and they were clue less on how to repair it! What a difference 24 hours made and by Friday afternoon I received a phone call saying it was 'nearly' finish!

At first I didn't believe them, so this morning when the car was supposed to be delivered, I called UK Assistance one last time and no it wasn't a dream, it was actually coming back fully repaired!

I haven't had much time to have closer inspection because of the weather, but it does open and all seems well. Time will tell to see if it leaks. The headlining is a bit grubby but nothing I can’t sort.

On the police side of things, nothing much has changed but I'll keep you all informed on the outcome.

In the meantime, I’d like to thank EVERYONE for your kind words and support (y)

I hope this thread will serve as a guide to anyone who finds themself in a similar situation.

It sure does feel good to be back in the panda! ;)

He'll probably get away with a slapped wrist and a fine. But as he's probably from a family who know nothing but benefits the fine will be repaid at pence per week. I imagine he won't be joining the nations work force anytime soon either as he'll leave school with no qualifications because instead of concentrating on school work he preferred throwing bricks at others people's hard earned property!

At this stage I'm unsure of the final outcome. The police did say if it goes to court he may only get a caution, which in my opinion is a joke and essentially condones this type of behaviour!

Then again when they spoke to his step-dad, apparently he was willing to pay for the damage if he was found guilty. So time will tell really, but its a step in the right direction and lets hope justice is on my side!

What was the outcome in the end out of interest? Did it go any further

Unfortunately not! I had to pay the excess and the lad got let off! The police couldn't get the other boys to sign a statement. So much for justice. Don’t worry, he doesn’t know what’s coming to him, the police won’t be able to prove anything ;)
