Nice to see CarPlay implemented, the old head unit in the Panda was a disgrace in 2020, but it does look like a bit of a lash-up.

My thoughts exactly. Is it held on by gaffer tape?

So there's to be a 4x4 Cross and a 4x4 City Cross? And a non-4x4 Cross and a non-4x4 City Cross? How does that work?!! This could get very confusing.

The touchscreen doesn't look as successfully integrated as it does in Fiat's other models. Losing the central air vents is a definite compromise in my eyes and shows that Fiat are doing the minimum required to keep the Panda ticking over until a completely new model can be launched. Assuming they go down that route with the current difficulties facing city cars. In an ideal world they'd have redesigned the dashboard to allow air vents to be fitted elsewhere, like they did when they added a touchscreen to the 500 in 2015.

70hp TA in the non-4x4?

That's the 'Natural Power' model, which I think they've done for some time in Italy, possibly elsewhere in Europe. Its unlikely we'll get this model. The car magazines mention City Life, Sport, City Cross, Wild 4x4 & Cross 4x4 for the UK. I'm thinking we may get 'Panda' (base model) too, since Panda sells heavily on price. In the UK I reckon it'll be the 1.0 Firefly engine for Panda, City Life, Sport & City Cross, and TwinAir 85bhp for Wild 4x4 & Cross 4x4. I hope I'm wrong and they offer a City Cross & even Sport with the TwinAir but I don't think they will.

I think only the TA85 Wild 4x4 would be interesting, it will probable look different then any Cross model.

The CityLife model seems to have a lot more features over the basic Panda for just £700 more. They're asking for a lot more money for the basic model over the outgoing Easy but that's the price of the Firefly engine I guess.

Agreed. City Life seems the spec to go for unless you want the 4x4 or TwinAir engine. The City Life has all the kit of the current Lounge and more. The basic Panda has similar levels of kit to the current mid spec Easy trim level, but since the current entry level Pop model has gained aircon as standard a while ago (which used to be one of the main reasons for jumping from Pop to Easy), I can see why they've essentially dropped the equivalent spec to 'Pop' in the new range - it's sparsely equipped.

The Sport model sounds like a City Life with some extra styling add-onns, a little bit like the difference between the 500 Lounge and S/Sport.

Wild 4x4 definitely seems to represent better value for money than the Cross 4x4, but that was somewhat the case with the current range and yet the Cross has still been a hit. I imagine some keen finance offers will be the key to sales of some variants, particularly the £17,995 Cross, though.

The scary thing is I remember in 2006 the Grande Punto being advertised, starting at £7594 on the road, now we're looking at the entry level of the car below the Punto starting at nearly £12,000. Quite sobering.

Presumably because EuroNCAP only test new models once they've gone on sale? I didn't get the impression from the website that autonomous braking (City Brake Control) will be standard, but it's available as an option (as it has been on the Panda for some time). I imagine it would need to be standard to have an impact on the EuroNCAP score?

Other than that, I guess the 'new' Panda will be just as much of a death-trap as it's always been.

In other safety-related news, it looks like they've retained those ridiculous, dysfunctional, quartic cup-holders. They are a safety hazard! Hot coffee down one's left leg on the first sharp bend of the morning is not a safe way to start the day...

No mention being made of EuroNCAP scores, I note.

Well you cant really mention the star rating if you don't have any stars.....

My Panda has the CBC system so might have got a star. My insurance company doesn't understand autonomous braking systems and won't give a discount for it so I am thinking of removing the fuse. It does work though. I have had 1 intervention when being badly cut up on a roundabout. That was just annoying as I wanted to leave no more than a micron gap and Panda decided discretion was more sensible. Noop wanted to keep his paintwork perfect....

"Sport".

Those red calipers will definitely make it go faster. I reckon. (y)

All it needs now are some Go Faster stripes. Surprised they didn't tack on a 100HP-style spoiler on the back, but perhaps they feared the poor beast would die of shame.
