Technical dash rattle

The dash vents can be removed. But my experience is that the rattle is not from the vents but actually the airbag unit's fixings that rattled- and yes, affected by temperature.

To remove the vents, first remove the radio. Then, there is a Torx screw that holds the centre vents in place. This is screwed in 'straight up' directly under the centre of the vent unit. However, in my case, on unscrewing it, it fell out and down into the dash somewhere and rattled even more!

There is something that rattles in the dash and it does sound like the vents or more likely the ducting vibrating deep in the dash (for the windscreen demister vent?)

We'd had two Pandas do it and they went back under warranty to be sorted.

I never did find out what rattled, but I did see one being repaired at the dealers.
It was a complete dash out job and strip down of all the parts.
I did think at the time I'm glad I never tried to fix it myself, it looked a right mess.

I noticed a few foam type sticky pads left in the foot wells when I picked one up after fix, I guess this is what they used to hold the ducting in place.

On one of them, if I pushed the radio inwards, the rattle stopped, this one came back with the radio no longer quite flush to the dash panel after the fix, so was under the impression is wasn't the same rattle as the other one, though it was just as annoying.

Since then I've had a few Pandas on hire on holidays and most have rattled as well, some quite badly.

We had a dash rattle on ours which I chased around for months. In the end it turned out to be the front end of the dash tapping against the windscreen. That was temp sensitive too. We only noticed it in hot weather or when the heating was on. I made some small discreet wedges out of foam rubber and wedged them between the dash and the windscreen and the tapping went away.

Cured my rattle this way too...
Couple bits of 4mm rubber sheet folded and then wedged in

ok, so ive take the lower glove box out and have full access to most of the various nuts bolts and screws, anyone know which little bugger i should tighten first?

Your grip on your wallet, if you have to take it to a dealer to fix the rattle, or put it back together again  :slayer:

Don't forget to label the screws, and take lots of pics as you take it apart (y)
