Hey people, fist post so be gentle :)

I drive a 2015 panda pop which I've now covered 6k in. However my front brakes are irritating me to a near postal moment.

This is the second pop I've had so I feel I know what to expect braking wise, however fade and squeak is really high. I live out in the sticks and have a lot of up hill and down Dale driving to do, they fade really fast and that's without spirited driving, and squeak regardless if they are hot and cold all the time.

Dealer and helpful and trustworthy indie have checked the brakes for me and reported a 3mm lip on front disks and 80% front pad life remaining and have been stripped and system lubed and reassembled, backs drums are good with no problems and have been cleaned, serviced and reassembled. Other than that they say there's nothing to report.

Any advice on what I can do to make them work a little better, if new disks and pads are the cure than so be it but tired of being stared at when stopping at traffic lights due to the squeaking ;)

Attached a photo of disk, sorry about the state of the alloys! Believe it or not that's less than 200 miles of brake dust!

Thanks all

Sounds like it's got cheap pads on that crumble easily, when there cooling down the dust is going hard and getting clogged up. I'd be tempted to change these for a more premium pad imo

I get the impression your right there. The pads and disks are original from the factory ATE, however I'm not impressed. Last pop was a huge improvement. Been quoted £140 for Bosch disks and pads from my inde, Pagid quoted at £130.

Indeed that is a help. Shall I consider getting the disks done too? As it's not a huge additional expense

Depends if there's any scores or grooves on them, also your squeak could be that the disc is ever so slight ly warped, if you have a decent mechanic you trust near by they can use spealist equipment to tell if the disc is straight or not.

Very impressed by the Pagid's on the wife's panda, plus the coating ensures that they won't look unsightly as they age.

That's a good vote of confidence to me about the Pagids. Had the car up on the ramps at my friendly indie today. He allowed me to stay in the workshop watching while he checked the runout of the disks. It's pretty much 100% perfect but as they already have a fairly large lip for the miles they have covered, plus the cack oem pads which have scored the disk to a reasonable degree, we agreed to get the pads and disks done at the same time.

A bit of haggling has got me the deal of:

Pagid Pads and Disks - front

Handbrake adjustment

Wheel alignment (having hit a pothole hard enough to split my tyre last month I figured it may be a good idea to check and adjust)

Oil and Filter change - oe fiat filter and selenia k pure energy that is factory fill.

Total price all in with VAT - £199. Plus as I have been using him and all of my family have to for the past 10 years, I know it's done right and he's true to his word. Good result I think.
