Hi Guys,

I got a new Panda 4x4 TA in June and traveled about 2500 miles. I love the car, think it is just great. However, every now and then when I start the engine, there is a loud beep and a message says that the ELD is unavailable. The next time I start my engine, this will have cleared and I won't see the same problem for a few days. Just wondered if anyone had seen this before? Also, I don't know if it is connected, but the central locking via the key fob just seems to stop working for a day and then it will be fine again. These are the only problems I've had with the vehicle and I am very impressed with it. Any suggestions though would be greatly appreciated,

Cheers

No sure about the central locking, but I had a similar ELD issue with my mk3 4x4 where the solenoid switch to the rear drive was faulty and had to be s replaced in order to solve the problem....

Could be just dodgy Italian electrics. We also have an alfa GT, its supposed to beep beep when u lock/unlock it remotely. Sometimes it does......sometimes it doesn't! All adds to the charm (maybe)

Well it has just been in to be looked at. They picked it up at 8:30am and rang me at 3pm to say they have no idea as the computer isn't showing any problem. So they want to book it in for a few days to see if anything crops up. No doubt it will be fine from now on which is fine by me. Still a cracking little car though, but can't wait to try and put it through its paces.

What happened to the eld problem in the end? Mine is doing the same. It seems to give the fault when I switch the ignition on and leave it a minute or so before actually starting. Mine is booked in next week to have the eld problem looked at.

Hello, nothing further as yet. I've been busy on call so haven't been able to book it in. After they checked it, the ELD problem didn't happen for about a week and then it started off again. Seems to only happen early in the morning for me. The other thing is that although it says its unavailable, if you actually press the button, it turns it on and you can then turn it off again. Sadly haven't been able to test the drive system to see if it is actually on, but it seems to be. I'll try and book it in again to be checked and let you know.

Just come back from the dealer and was told the eld unavailable messages were due to a software fault. They have done a software update, so I'll see if it's behaving any better now.

Well that is an interesting one. I'll see if I can get it booked in when I'm not on call and hopefully they will be more aware of the problem to get it fixed. Hopefully sorted for any snow coming now that the cold weather is here otherwise it is a bit pointless having the system.

Got the same issue with ELD not available message on cold mornings! Local fiat garage can't locate the fault and want to keep it in overnight!

Mines does this too. Along with esc unavailable a couple of times, and even airbag fault once.

Mine seems to coincide with my stop/start problem.
That btw has not been fixed by fitting a new battery or overnight trickle charging.

I too have found despite the eld unavailable message, that the eld is still selectable by the switch.

Sounds like good old-fashioned Italian electrical glitches. Our alfa GT is full of them: door open warning when its quite obviously shut, central locking beeps only happen intermittently, electric windows very occasionally don't fully close.....all adds to the fun I guess! LoL

Hi doggy doctor, I have the same symptoms, please can you give any more info on the software update, do you know which version you have been updated too? If not please can you let me know the name of your dealership so I can call and ask. I find before speaking with a dealership it is always better to go armed with information, or you are likely to get fobbed off!

I have no idea what software update it was or what version I have now or even how I can find out, but I go to Stoneacre in Wrexham.

I think the eld and start stop errors are due to battery problems or voltage problems.
After the eld fault was fixed, I only ever saw it once more and that was when installed the engine and then got a message that start stop wasn't available and also eld wasn't available. Never happened again after that.
My eld fault was purely eld and was happening mainly if I'd switch the ignition on, but waited a while before actually starting the car. Starting it straight away wouldn't usually give the eld unavailable message. As I said, it's now fixed.

My TA 4x4 has shown ELD not available twice this week straight after starting. I've not had this previously and I do wonder if this battery suggestion is related as I could well imagine the battery voltage could be dropping slightly as I do two runs a day to the station in the dark with lights on and heated seats occasionally. It's a 7 mile journey though so I'd expect it to compensate for the battery drain.

I've not had any letters about a firmware update.

What has battery drain got to do with the ELD? The start/stop I can understand...... They apparently ran an update on mine this week (they said fiat had just issued an update)
However I've still got a s/s problem..... It failed to restart yesterday (embarrassing) and today it stops and after a short time the ESC light comes on, it restarts and there is an error message...... Going back after Christmas

I've no idea why it would affect it. It was a suggestion earlier in the thread. I can press the ELD switch after the message and it seems to enable and disable it. I think personally it may have more to do with sticking brakes ( mine squeak when reversing and after I move off from stand still). I can't believe a modern car has brakes that behave like this. My abarth had squeaks when reversing after 30,000 miles from the rear brakes and ended up with new pads to fix it.

The panda has been doing it since almost new :-(
